Program Details

Sos Nicaragua is a grassroots conservation initiative dedicated to protecting mangrove ecosystems and coastal biodiversity in Nicaragua. Through wildlife monitoring, habitat restoration, environmental education, and community engagement, the project works to promote sustainable coexistence between local communities and the natural environment while providing meaningful hands-on conservation experiences for volunteers from around the world.

Activities & Shift

As a Digital Communications & Videography Volunteer, you will play a key role in documenting and promoting our conservation work in the mangroves of Nicaragua. Through photography, videography, storytelling, and digital media, you will help raise awareness about environmental challenges, community-based conservation, wildlife protection, and the daily efforts of our team and volunteers.

Main responsibilities:

Capture high-quality photos and videos of field activities, wildlife, volunteers, and local communities.
Produce short documentaries, promotional videos, reels, and social media content.
Assist in managing and creating content for social media platforms, websites, and fundraising campaigns.
Conduct interviews with volunteers, staff, and community members to share their stories and experiences.
Help develop communication strategies that increase the visibility and impact of the project.
Organize and archive visual content for future outreach and educational purposes.

What we are looking for:

Experience or strong interest in photography, videography, digital storytelling, journalism, communications, marketing, or related fields.
Creativity and the ability to work independently.
Basic editing skills using photo and video editing software.
A passion for conservation, sustainability, and community engagement.
Flexibility and willingness to work in a remote field environment.

Why this role matters:
Many important conservation initiatives remain invisible to the wider world. By helping us document and communicate our work, you will contribute directly to raising awareness, attracting support, and amplifying the voices of local communities working to protect Nicaragua's natural heritage.

Rules

Due to the nature of this role and the time required to produce meaningful communication materials, applicants should be able to commit to a minimum stay of one month. Previous experience in photography, videography, digital communications, journalism, marketing, or related fields is strongly preferred. Volunteers are expected to work independently, respect project guidelines and local communities, and maintain a professional attitude while representing Sos Nicaragua and its conservation mission.
