The experience
Metro Manila has a side most travel content never reaches. We live in it.

What this position actually is
You're not a content intern. You're not a free photographer. You're the person who tells the story of what's happening here — and what's happening here is worth telling.
QBee runs a feeding program for kids on Crazy Island. We do coastal cleanups. We host travelers from twenty countries who eat together by hand, share rooms with strangers, and leave with friends. Josh, the founder, is documenting his own rebuild publicly. There's a story being lived here daily, and most of it goes uncaptured because nobody has been holding the camera with intention.
That's the role.
You'll have full creative range — photography, short-form video, written stories, social media. You'll have direct access to the people, the places, and the moments. You'll own your portfolio at the end of this. Everything you shoot is yours to use anywhere, alongside ours.
This place draws creators who:
Want a real body of work, not staged travel reels
Can spot a quiet moment and know it matters
Edit fast and ship without permission loops
Care about the people in the frame, not just the frame
Are curious about Filipino life beyond the tourist version
Want their work to actually go somewhere
If that sounds like you, you'll feel it within the first afternoon.
Activities & Shift
Your contribution — 5 hours a day, real creative output
Five focused hours, five days a week. Two full days off to explore, rest, or shoot personal work. You choose your own rhythm inside the day.
What you'll be capturing and creating:
Photography
Daily life inside the home — meals, conversations, volunteers, guests
Community days — the feeding program, island visits, coastal cleanups
Portraits of locals, kids, travelers, the team
The neighborhood — street life, markets, the parts of Pasay tourists never see
Video
Short-form reels for Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts
Longer cuts for the Alchemist Field Channel — Josh's public rebuild
Behind-the-scenes of community days
Volunteer arrival and farewell moments — the real ones
Cooking sessions, island days, evening conversations
Written content
Captions that carry the moment, not just describe it
Short stories from inside the house — what happened today, who was here
Volunteer features when the moment is right
Social media
Post and schedule across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook
Engage with the community building around the channel
Help shape the visual identity as it evolves
🌞 Rhythm & Flow
5 hours a day · 2 full days off · the rest of the time is yours
Mornings are usually best for shooting. Evenings are usually best for editing or being present at the table. You'll find your own pattern within the first week.
💛 Community Days — where the real footage lives
Once a week, we head to Crazy Island 🌀 or Beacon Island for the feeding program, coastal cleanups, and island life with the kids and locals. These are the days where the strongest stories happen. You'll be there with your camera, your phone, your notebook — whatever you work with.
Rules
🎯 What we're building together
Josh is publicly rebuilding QBee on camera — a 180-day field report. Your work directly fuels that. Every photo, every reel, every story you ship becomes part of a growing body of work that's being watched by a real audience. You're not making content that disappears. You're making content that compounds.
What you walk away with:
A real portfolio shot in a place most creators never access
Footage and photos you fully own and can use anywhere
A reference and certificate from a working community project
Stories you'll be telling for years
A version of Manila most travelers never find
🤍 The feeling
Meals shared. Evenings social — sometimes calm, sometimes lively.
Usually 3 to 5 volunteers, plus travelers and locals passing through.
Around 10 people total most days. Small enough that every face becomes familiar by your second evening. Real enough that your camera will have something to do.
Shared bunks with privacy curtains and AC. Breakfast and dinner cooked together, never from a convenience store. Drinking and shower water always available. Fast Wi-Fi (150+ Mbps) for uploads, edits, and calls home. Dedicated workspace. Full kitchen if you want to cook. Free laundry. Certificate at the end if you want one.
Nothing fancy. Just a real home that works — and works well enough for serious creative work to happen inside it.
Simple home. Simple agreements.
Clean up after yourself
Respect quiet hours at night
No drugs. No heavy drinking
Tell us if you're tired, sick, or just need space — we'd rather know
Show up for shared moments — meals, community days, evenings
Ask before bringing outsiders in
No sex on the property
Anything you shoot of the community, the kids, or named individuals — we'll talk about what gets published before it goes out
