Program Details

Here on Samos, craftspeople, professionals and volunteers from all over the world come together to share knowledge, develop skills and create practical solutions for real humanitarian needs.
At the SKILLS FACTORY, we believe that people should not be reduced to recipients of aid. Instead, we create opportunities for people to use their skills, learn new ones, work together and contribute meaningfully to their community.

We produce humanitarian aid ourselves:
by hand. locally. sustainably. independently. honestly.

The SKILLS FACTORY is a project of selfm.aid, a Swiss-Greek NGO working at the intersection of humanitarian aid, empowerment and self-reliance. Together with members of the refugee community, local residents and international volunteers, we run workshops and services that provide training, production opportunities and practical support for people living on Samos.

Our aim is to create a place where people can unfold their potential. Through our departments, professionals exchange knowledge, collaborate across cultures, develop innovative solutions and learn with and from one another.

Today, the SKILLS FACTORY focuses on six core departments:
• Tailoring & Sewing
• Kitchen
• Media
• Barber/Hairdresser
• Craft Workshop (Maintenance)
• WASH

Our work is built around three key principles:
Training
Supporting people to learn new skills, gain experience and build confidence.
Production
Creating high-quality products and services that directly benefit the community.
Connection
Building bridges to local businesses, employment opportunities and wider social inclusion.
