Program Details

North Sea Coral Conservation Program

Our coastal area was once home to a rich and vibrant coral reef ecosystem, full of marine life and natural beauty. Unfortunately, over the years, the reef has been severely damaged due to destructive fishing practices, especially bomb fishing, which has caused significant coral destruction and loss of marine biodiversity.

Through this program, we are working to restore and protect what is left of this precious underwater ecosystem. Volunteers will actively participate in coral restoration activities such as coral planting, reef monitoring, underwater clean-ups, and marine conservation education.

This is a hands-on environmental project based in a local coastal community, where you will work closely with local staff and learn about the importance of marine protection and sustainable practices.

By joining, you are not only helping to rebuild damaged coral reefs but also supporting long-term awareness and protection efforts to ensure the ocean can recover for future generations. 🌊🪸

Activities & Shift

Day 1 – Arrival & Introduction
Volunteers get to know the local coastal village and community. This day is used to settle in, understand daily life, and prepare all necessary equipment for marine activities. A short introduction to the sea site and safety briefing will also be given.

Day 2 – Coral Nursery & Learning
This day focuses on learning about coral ecosystems. Volunteers will join the team to collect coral fragments (seedlings) and understand which coral species are suitable for transplantation and reef restoration.

Day 3 – Coral Planting Begins
Volunteers start hands-on coral planting activities in the designated reef area. You will learn proper techniques for attaching coral fragments and helping rebuild damaged reef structures.

Day 4 – Coral Restoration Work Continues
Continue coral planting and reef maintenance activities. Volunteers will gain deeper practical experience while monitoring previously planted coral and improving restoration techniques.

Day 5 – Final Restoration & Monitoring
Final day of coral restoration work, including checking growth areas, cleaning the site if needed, and ensuring all planted coral is properly secured and documented.

Day Off – Diving & Island Hopping
A free exploration day to enjoy sport diving in nearby waters and experience island hopping around beautiful coastal areas. A relaxing and rewarding marine adventure.

Final Day – Lombok Exploration
Visit the highlands of Sembalun to enjoy stunning mountain views, followed by exploring Senaru waterfalls. A perfect cultural and nature experience before departure. 🌊🪸🏝️

Rules

Our program is based on trust, respect, and simple living. We don’t have many strict rules, but we ask all volunteers to follow these basic guidelines:

Respect local people, staff, and the community at all times

Be responsible and follow instructions during marine activities

Work with care and attention when handling coral and equipment

Be punctual and ready for scheduled activities

Respect local culture, traditions, and way of life

Keep a positive attitude and support teamwork

Maintain cleanliness in shared spaces and around the village

Communicate openly if you feel unwell or need assistance

We believe respect and good energy are the most important rules in our program. 🌊🪸
