Program Details

Welcome to Behind the Wild, a unique volunteer experience where photography, storytelling, and wildlife conservation come together. You will not just document our project; you will become part of it.

Throughout the year, you will have the opportunity to experience both of our main conservation programs. From July to December, sea turtles take the leading role, with beach patrols, monitoring activities, and the incredible chance to witness one of nature’s most magical events. From December to June, our bird conservation program becomes the main focus, including bird monitoring, habitat restoration, and learning about Costa Rica’s fascinating biodiversity. However, both programs are active all year round, so you will always be surrounded by a rich variety of wildlife and conservation activities.

Your mission will be to accompany our volunteers and conservation team in their daily work, capturing authentic moments through photography and videography. You will create content that showcases the beauty of the natural environment, the wildlife we protect, and the meaningful experiences of our volunteers.

This experience is not only for content creators; you will also have the chance to participate in the same activities as our volunteers, getting your hands dirty, learning about conservation, exploring the surroundings by boat, walking along wild beaches, and connecting deeply with nature.

If you are passionate about photography, videography, wildlife, and telling stories that inspire change, this is your opportunity to live behind the scenes of conservation and become the voice behind the images that help us protect our planet.

Activities & Shift

Your main role will be to capture the daily life of our conservation project through photos and videos. Activities may include:

• Documenting sea turtle patrols, nest monitoring, hatchling releases, and beach conservation activities.

• Joining boat expeditions and fieldwork to photograph wildlife, landscapes, and conservation activities.

• Capturing bird monitoring sessions, biodiversity surveys, and habitat restoration work.

• Taking photos and videos of volunteers during their daily activities, workshops, and life within the project.

• Creating visual content for our website and social media platforms.

You are also welcome to actively participate in conservation tasks alongside other volunteers, such as beach cleanups, gardening, organic farming, composting, recycling initiatives, and environmental education activities.

The schedule varies depending on the season, weather conditions, and conservation priorities. Some activities, especially sea turtle patrols, may take place early in the morning or at night, while other tasks are carried out during the day. Flexibility and a sense of adventure are essential for this role.

Rules

Volunteers must bring their own equipment, such as a camera or video camera. Additionally, if they wish, they are encouraged to bring binoculars and a red flashlight for night patrols.
