Program Details

Hi, I’m Roberto! Originally a Milan tech entrepreneur, I pivoted my lifestyle to focus on nature, ecology, horses, animal care, and beauty. I bought an abandoned, decaying farm in a stunning part of Tuscany to bring it back to life. My long-term goal is an agro-ecological farm with a horse-riding agritourism, immersing guests in ethical food production, soil regeneration, and local history, food, and wine. It will take massive time and money, and I don't know if I'll live long enough to see it finished!

I refurbished a simple, tiny flat next to a stable where I live. To regenerate the tired soil, I planted an olive grove and introduced animals; I now have 85 sheep/lambs and 25 cows/calves. My upcoming priority is caring for them and building 3km of fences for more pasture.

I provide food and accommodation in my flat (one bedroom, one bathroom, tiny kitchen, living room with a sofa bed, and a small single-bed room currently without a window, though a skylight is coming soon). You can choose between the sofa bed or the windowless room. It is definitely not for sophisticated, highly demanding people! WiFi is basic and unstable during bad weather. I'm a decent cook and can handle a vegetarian diet, but vegans must self-manage. We only have eggs so far, so food is bought at local shops or supermarkets.

You will be immersed in history near Pienza, Montepulciano, and San Quirico d’Orcia, featuring 2800-year-old Etruscan cities, medieval towns, thermal pools, and spas. I have a degree in Italian literature, was an internet pioneer, and still manage an AI startup holding company, so I can be entertaining. You'll love the Mount Amiata sunsets and playful lambs!

Activities & Shift

Morning and afternoon care of the animals: feeding, healt checks, grooming.

Farm improvement activities: preparing materials and building electric fences.

Some gardening and mowing of the edges around the fences.

Rules

Respect and flexibility. I’m looking for enthusiastic volunteers who would like to experience rural life, learn about regenerative farming, care for animals, and contribute to a meaningful long-term project. Physical strength and adaptability are also very important.
We'll live together in a quite tiny flat. I expect you help in tidying up and in daily housekeeping duties.
