Program Details

We're looking for someone who would enjoy becoming part of our young Kiwi family's everyday life. Your main role will be helping with childcare and light household tasks, giving our family an extra pair of hands while you experience life in one of Auckland's most beautiful coastal communities.

We believe Worldpackers is about genuine cultural exchange. You'll have your own private, self-contained downstairs guest suite, plenty of free time to explore, and we'll happily introduce you to local beaches, walks and attractions. As a New Zealand History and Social Studies teacher, I also enjoy sharing New Zealand's history, culture and society with anyone who's interested, helping you experience the country from a local perspective.

Activities & Shift

You'll help for around 20 hours each week, mainly on weekday mornings.

Your tasks may include:

* Helping care for our young children while Mum is busy.
* Playing games, reading books and spending time with the kids.
* Preparing simple snacks or lunches for the children.
* Light household tasks such as tidying toys, folding washing, vacuuming and helping keep shared spaces organised.

Afternoons, evenings and weekends are generally your own to relax, explore the Whangaparāoa Peninsula and enjoy the nearby beaches.

Rules

We like to keep things relaxed, respectful and based on open communication.

* Friends are welcome to visit. We simply ask that you check with us beforehand so we know who's on the property. Because this is our family home with three young children, any overnight guests need to be agreed with us in advance.
* We don't permit smoking or recreational drugs anywhere on the property.
* Responsible alcohol consumption is absolutely fine, but please don't drink before or during your childcare or household duties.
* Our family vehicles aren't available for volunteer use, as they're only insured for third-party cover. However, we're always happy to give you a lift when we can, and there are good public transport options nearby.
* Although you'll have your own private downstairs guest suite, we're all sharing the same home. We ask that everyone knocks before entering each other's space, and we'll extend the same courtesy to you.
* If you're going away overnight or your plans change, please let us know so we know you're safe.
* Most importantly, we value kindness, honesty and open communication. If something isn't working or you have any questions, we'd much rather talk about it early than let it become a problem.
