Program Details

At Associação Novas Descobertas, volunteers join a educational focused community in Odiáxere (Lagos) supporting programs for regeneration.
The project brings together community living, outdoor learning, simple daily routines and shared responsibility for the spaces we inhabit. It is a hands-on environment where everything is connected: food, nature, care and education.
Volunteers will be supporting the kitchen team, helping with preparation and organisation, assisting during camp and off-camp moments.
We are looking for people who are responsible, flexible, collaborative and open to living and working in a community-based environment.
In return, volunteers experience a meaningful time in nature, meet people from different backgrounds, and take part in a programme rooted in education, ecology and collective care.

Activities & Shift

You'll be joining our Chef and Kitchen Assistant, alongside one other volunteer. We're looking for two people who enjoy collaborating, can stay organised, communicate openly, and bring a positive attitude to the kitchen.

Your tasks may include:
• Assisting with meal preparation
• Keeping the kitchen clean and organised throughout the day
• Washing and caring for the cooking equipment and utensils used by the kitchen team (the campers wash their own plates and cutlery!)
• Organising ingredients and storage
• Supporting the overall flow of the kitchen wherever needed

The day-to-day rhythm can be dynamic, especially during summer camps, so flexibility and teamwork are very important. After some days, you’ll be quiet confident and autonomous in tasks.

Rules

This is a community-based experience, where respect, responsibility and communication are essential.
We expect volunteers to:
- Respect all participants, staff, other volunteers and the local community.
- Be punctual and present for agreed shifts and responsibilities
- Communicate clearly about needs, limits or difficulties
- Respect shared spaces and clean up after yourself.
- Be open to simple living, shared spaces and a camping-style environment
- No drugs (alcohol and tabacco included in the space during programs).
- Follow guidance from the coordination team and attend community meeting.

We value people who are kind, proactive, adaptable and willing to learn while contributing to a positive and respectful community atmosphere. We all want to enjoy the space where we live and work.
