Program Details
Our volunteer program is designed to give you a genuine experience of life at a small Greek riding club. You'll have plenty of free time to explore Syros, relax at the beaches, enjoy the local culture, or simply spend time with the horses. We work together in a friendly, informal environment where everyone helps each other and enjoys a slower pace of life. We value open communication, respect, and a positive attitude, and we're happy to share our knowledge about horse care, island life, and running a small equestrian business. We ask volunteers to treat the horses with kindness and patience and to take pride in helping keep the yard clean, safe, and welcoming for both animals and visitors.
Activities & Shift
The daily schedule is organised around the horses' routine and changes slightly depending on the season. Volunteers help with the morning, lunchtime, and evening feeding, ensuring all horses have fresh water and hay throughout the day. Cleaning duties include mucking out stables, tidying paddocks, sweeping the yard, and maintaining the riding arenas. During the summer, most cleaning is done in the cooler evening hours, while in winter it takes place in the mornings. Volunteers also lend a hand during riding lessons by preparing horses, assisting riders when needed, and helping with general yard organisation. Lessons are usually held on weekday evenings and weekend evenings during summer, while in winter they take place mainly in the mornings. The exact schedule may vary depending on the weather, the horses' needs, and bookings.
