Program Details
Welcome to our hostel in the heart of Antigua Guatemala! We are building more than just a place to stay—we are creating a community where travelers, volunteers, and locals can connect through culture, hospitality, great coffee, and unforgettable experiences. Our volunteer program is designed to offer a genuine cultural exchange. In return for a few hours of help each day, you will receive accommodation, become part of our international team, and gain hands-on experience in hospitality while exploring one of Central America’s most beautiful destinations. In this role, you will be the heartbeat of our social spaces! We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help run our hostel café and bar. Whether you are crafting the perfect morning brew to kickstart a traveler’s day of exploring, or mixing drinks and fueling the vibe at night, your energy will directly contribute to the welcoming atmosphere that makes our hostel special. We believe in creating a positive, respectful, and collaborative environment. Volunteers work alongside our local staff, participate in daily operations, and have the opportunity to meet travelers from all over the world. We encourage initiative and creativity—if you have ideas for new drink specials, themed bar nights, trivia, or ways to make our café space even cozier, we would love to hear them! Our goal is for every volunteer to leave with new skills, lifelong friendships, and unforgettable memories. 🌋This role is ideal for someone who is friendly, high-energy, responsible, communicative, and loves bringing people together over a great cup of coffee or a cold drink. ☕️🍹🌎
Activities & Shift
Volunteers help approximately 24–30 hours per week, spread across 4–5 days depending on the hostel’s needs and the shift schedule.
Shifts are scheduled in advance and include both morning café shifts and evening bar shifts. Because weekends and holidays are our busiest and most vibrant times, volunteers should expect to work during these periods.
At the beginning of your stay, you will receive an orientation and hands-on training to get you comfortable with our equipment, drink recipes, and the overall rhythm of our social spaces.
Your daily tasks will include:
Café & Bar Service: Preparing high-quality coffee, local beverages, and mixing drinks or pouring beers during bar hours.
Creating the Vibe: Playing great music, keeping the energy positive, and naturally socializing with guests to make them feel welcome.
Event Support: Helping organize and run social events like trivia nights, themed bar parties, or drink tastings.
Daily Operations: Managing cash/tab handling for the bar and café accurately.
Cleanliness & Organization: Keeping the bar, café counter, and surrounding lounge/common areas clean, stocked, and inviting at all times.
Teamwork: Supporting local staff and reception volunteers during busy crossover moments to ensure a seamless guest experience.
We value teamwork, flexibility, and proactive communication. Some nights are high-energy and fast-paced, while some mornings are more relaxed—we expect volunteers to bring great energy to both!
Your free time is yours to enjoy! Explore Antigua, hike nearby volcanoes, visit local markets, take Spanish classes, or simply relax and connect with fellow travelers.
