The experience
Join UVLIA in Mayuge, Uganda to support Orphans and Vulnerable Children.
You will: Teach children, mentor youth, do home visits, support girls, and join community outreaches.
We provide: Accommodation, 3 meals daily, (airport pickup Volunteer's expense) training, and certificate.
Fee: $10 per day
Location: Mayuge District, Uganda
Duration: 2 weeks minimum
No experience needed. Training provided.

Description:
What your $10 covers:
Welcome & Orientation - Community introduction, safety briefing, and placement at St. Peters, Mpakirema, and neighboring schools
Local Coordinator Support - Daily guidance from UVLIA staff during your stay
Administrative Costs - Volunteer records, certificate, and communication
Community Contribution - Small contribution to school garden tools, learning materials, and activities for children
What you get

Private Room:
You will have a bed in a private room. In other words, a room just for you.
Breakfast:
You are entitled to a free breakfast, every day of your stay.
Lunch:
You are entitled to a free lunch, every day of your stay.
Dinner:
You are entitled to a free dinner, every day of your stay.
Requirements
Intermediate English
Between 18 and 80 years old
Welcomes solo volunteers, couples, and partners of volunteers

Program Details
A typical week at UVLIA:
MONDAY - FRIDAY
8:00am - Breakfast at host house
9:00am - 1:00pm: Teach in local schools and community learning center. Help children with reading, writing and math. Support homework and classroom activities.
2:00pm - 4:00pm: Youth mentorship sessions or skills training for girls. Topics: life skills, HIV awareness, goal setting.
4:00pm - 5:30pm: Home visits with UVLIA staff to check on OVC families.
SATURDAY
Community outreach or group activities with children. Sports, art and games.
SUNDAY
Rest day. Volunteers can explore Mayuge town or relax.
Volunteers live together at the UVLIA host house in Nawampongo Village. Meals are provided. Staff give orientation on day 1 and daily support.
Activities & Shift
DAILY ACTIVITIES AND SHIFTS:
Morning Shift: 9:00am - 1:00pm
Teach in local schools and the UVLIA community learning center. Help children with reading, writing, math and homework. Play educational games and lead classroom activities.
Afternoon Shift: 2:00pm - 4:00pm
Run youth mentorship sessions. Teach life skills like goal setting, HIV prevention, and career planning. Support girls with hygiene training and skills like crafts and tailoring.
Late Afternoon: 4:00pm - 5:30pm
Home visits with UVLIA staff to check on OVC families. Provide counseling and link families to health services.
Saturday:
Community outreach, sports, art and group activities with children.
Sunday:
Rest day.
Volunteers work about 6 hours per day, 5 days a week. Staff provide training and support every day.
Rules
RULES AND EXPECTATIONS:
Respect Ugandan culture, children, staff and community members at all times.
Be punctual and attend all scheduled activities and meetings.
Dress modestly and appropriately when in schools and communities.
No alcohol, drugs or smoking during work hours and in the host house.
Maintain confidentiality and do not share photos of children without UVLIA staff permission.
Follow UVLIA child protection policy. No inappropriate contact with children.
Inform staff in advance if you will be absent or traveling.
Keep the host house clean and treat all property with care.
Be open-minded, patient and willing to learn from the community.
Volunteers who do not follow these rules may be asked to leave the program.
