Program Details

Unico is beginning a new chapter for its arts centre: a purpose-built but currently empty space beside our wood workshop, ready to become a place for making, learning and exchange. We are looking for an independent maker, designer or artist who wants to seed its identity. You will have room to develop a project of your own while helping us shape simple, repeatable workshops that guests, neighbours and future residents can enjoy. We value someone who can start thoughtfully, work with what exists and leave a useful foundation behind. Our founder is a native English speaker, so communication is straightforward.

Activities & Shift

Your work will be shaped around your craft and may include creating a small body of work, arranging materials and displays, developing a workshop format, hosting occasional hands-on sessions for guests or neighbours, helping make the arts centre welcoming and functional, and documenting workshop ideas for the team. The wood workshop may be used only for activities you are qualified to undertake and after an agreed safety orientation. Most work is daytime; workshops or events may occasionally take place in the evening.

Rules

Please apply with a portfolio and a clear explanation of the craft you would like to teach. This is a collaborative, evolving space: be respectful of the building, tools, materials and local community, and discuss projects before starting them. Never use power tools, chemicals or the wood workshop without approval and appropriate safety guidance. Ask before photographing guests or neighbours, keep shared spaces clean, and communicate openly about material needs, costs and any problems. Smoking is only permitted in designated outdoor areas.
