Program Details
AHTE-TOGO is a Togolese humanitarian association based in Tsévié, in the Zio Prefecture, about 35 km north of Lomé. We work in education, health and social action, community development, and environment and sustainability, serving vulnerable children, young people, women and families.
This position focuses on our reforestation and community infrastructure work. Volunteers join our Togolese team as an extra pair of hands and as partners in cultural exchange. You will never work alone: a member of our team supervises the site every day and introduces you to the local context, the language and the way we work.
We are clear about what this is and what it is not. Volunteers are not here to replace local workers or to take on responsibilities that belong to trained staff. Our activities involving children are led exclusively by our own team members. Your contribution is practical: planting, maintaining, building, and sharing your skills with people who will continue the work after you leave.
Practical arrangements are handled by our coordination team, with a contact person based in Belgium who can answer questions before departure.
Activities & Shift
A typical week runs Monday to Friday, with two days off. Work takes place in the morning, usually from 7:00 to 11:00, to avoid the heat of the afternoon. Total: 20 hours per week.
Depending on the season and the current project, activities include:
Preparing and maintaining tree nurseries: filling bags, sowing, watering, transplanting
Planting days on reforestation sites around Tsévié
Simple construction, repair and painting work on community facilities
Preparing materials and tools, and helping organise community work days
Sharing skills with the team according to your own background
Afternoons and weekends are free. Tsévié has markets, and Lomé and the coast are easy to reach by shared taxi.
Meals are prepared and shared with the team at the guest house.
