Program Details
We are looking for motivated volunteers to help us improve the living conditions of the animals at the shelter.
The priority right now is the construction and layout of new enclosures for dogs as well as a cat shelter. Depending on the progress of the worksite and your skills, you will be able to participate in different tasks: assembly, repairs, fencing, painting, small construction work and space layout.
The work is mainly manual and can be physically demanding. We are therefore looking for resourceful, autonomous people who enjoy tinkering and who are not afraid to get their hands dirty. Experience in construction, carpentry, masonry or other manual trades is especially appreciated, but not essential.
People with gardening or planting knowledge are also welcome: we want to plant trees and plant areas to create more shade and freshness for the animals.
You will be welcomed right inside the shelter and will share part of the daily life of your hosts. We will show you the priority tasks and will work with you so that everyone can contribute according to their abilities.
In return, you will discover the life of an animal shelter in Morocco, share moments with the people who take care of the animals daily and live a simple, local and authentic experience.
Activities & Shift
Activities: The activities depend on the progress of the project and the needs of the shelter.
The main tasks may include:
construction and layout of dog enclosures;
participation in the construction of the cattery;
installation or repair of fences;
assembly, tinkering and small renovation works;
painting and maintenance of installations;
tidying and organizing the work spaces;
planting trees and maintenance of plantings to create shade for the animals;
assistance with certain practical tasks at the shelter: care and feeding of the animals, upkeep of their spaces
We expect about 4 to 5 hours of help per day, 5 days per week, with 2 days off.
The schedules are usually organized in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the hottest hours, especially in summer. They can be adjusted depending on the weather, the type of planned works and the shelter’s organization.
We appreciate volunteers able to work autonomously once the instructions are given, while respecting safety rules and the pace of the place.
Rules
Respect the animals, their spaces and the instructions given by the shelter managers.
Do not feed, move or handle an animal without authorization.
Respect safety instructions during the work and use tools properly.
Participate in community life and keep shared spaces clean.
The shelter is a simple and sometimes noisy place: you must be comfortable with the constant presence of the animals and the rudimentary comfort conditions.
Alcohol and drugs are prohibited inside the shelter.
We reserve the right to terminate the stay in case of non-compliance with the rules.
