Program Details
Imagine spending a few days in the interior of Santa Catarina, surrounded by nature, getting to know new stories, sharing what you know how to do, and being part of a community where every small experience can have a special meaning.
This is the experience we want to create at Casa do Oleiro. 🌿🌎
We are a nonprofit therapeutic community located in Rodeio, where we welcome men who are going through a process of recovery and rebuilding their lives.
By opening our doors to volunteers, we want to bring something new to our day-to-day: new cultures, ideas, talents, conversations, activities, and ways of seeing the world.
Here you won\'t just be someone who comes to put in a few hours of work.
We want you to experience the community with us.
Share meals, get to know people, participate in daily moments, teach something you love to do, and also be open to learning from those you meet along the way.
Perhaps you come from another country and share a typical recipe. Perhaps you play guitar, practice yoga, enjoy sports, photography, art, gardening, or have a completely different idea.
We want to discover what you can bring to Casa do Oleiro and also what this experience can leave in you.
Our home is in a quiet region surrounded by nature, perfect for those who want to discover a different side of Brazil and have a more hands-on experience with people and local life.
During your stay, we offer accommodation, all meals, Wi-Fi, the kitchen, laundry, and the support of our team.
Pickup on arrival depends on the day and time the volunteer is coming, but there are other transportation options available.
Activities & Shift
Here we do not want to limit all volunteers to the same tasks.
We believe that every person comes with something different to share, so activities may vary according to your skills, interests, and also the community\'s needs during your stay.
You can contribute with activities such as:
* Music and instruments;
* Art and crafts;
* Yoga, stretching, and well-being;
* Dance;
* Sports and recreational activities;
* Cooking and recipes from your country or region;
* Garden and gardening;
* Languages and cultural exchange;
* Photography and video;
* Social media and communication;
* Design and creative projects;
* Maintenance and improvements to spaces;
* Educational workshops;
* Environmental projects;
* Other skills or ideas proposed by you.
Do you have a different skill that\'s not on this list? Tell us! We love the idea of hosting volunteers who propose new activities and projects.
The residents already participate in the basic tasks of running the house. Therefore, we expect the volunteer to mainly add new experiences to the community\'s routine, although they can also collaborate with practical activities when necessary.
Shifts and schedules will be organized according to the activity you will develop and the routine of Casa do Oleiro.
We seek a balance between collaboration and experience: we want you to have time to participate in the community, rest, and also get to know Rodeio and the region.
The routine and more detailed schedules will be presented before arrival and adjusted with the volunteer according to the project developed.
Rules
Casa do Oleiro is a therapeutic community, and therefore some rules are essential to preserve a safe and respectful environment for everyone.
Not allowed on the property:
* To consume or possess alcoholic beverages;
* To consume or possess drugs;
* To smoke or possess cigarettes and other smoking-related products;
* To disrespect residents, staff or other volunteers;
* To expose residents\' personal stories without authorization;
* To photograph or film residents without prior authorization.
Casa do Oleiro has Christian principles and moments of prayer are part of the routine.
You do not need to be Christian and you are not required to participate in religious activities. We only ask respect for beliefs and the community\'s dynamics.
Living with the residents is very welcome. You may talk, share meals, practice sports and develop activities together with them.
At the same time, it is important to understand that the volunteer does not assume clinical or therapeutic roles. Medications, treatments, decisions related to treatment and confidential information are the exclusive responsibility of the institution\'s staff.
We expect from our volunteers:
* Respect;
* Responsibility;
* Punctuality in the commitments agreed;
* Open mind;
* Interest in coexistence;
* Initiative;
* Respect for each person\'s privacy;
* Willingness to teach and also to learn.
We want you to feel part of the community during your stay, always remembering that you are entering a space dedicated to recovery and rebuilding lives.
