What you offer

30 hours of help per week

Child Care: Caring for, playing with, and spending time with children.

Additional fee required

Amount: € 850 Per week

Description: Volunteers contribute €850 per week to cover food (authentic 3 meals per day), visa support document, pre-departure information pack, accommodation, utilities included, airport pickup, administrative support, in-country & program orientation, 24/7 in-country supervision & support from staff during your stay in the program, sim card, t-shirt, maintenance, donation to the project, certificate & reference letter upon request.

SMWEF Ghana internship offers exceptional clinical, cultural, and professional advantages for aspiring healthcare workers. It is ideal for undergraduate premed, gap year student, and high school student who want to gain early medical exposure before applying to medical school, strengthen their personal statements and CV’s, gain confidence in public hospitals, private healthcare facilities, and clinic setting, and learn about global health in a developing country.

SMWEF Ghana provides structured and supervised access for premed and high school students without clinical interference, ensuring a responsible, ethical, and educational experience and hands-on exposure in global health. This medical internship in Ghana offers supervised hospital observation, community health exposure, and cultural immersion in a safe and ethical setting. Interns also observe maternal and child health services such as ante-natal care, vaccination clinics, counseling, support community health outreach programs including screenings and health education campaigns based on the facilities arrangements.

Pre-Med Internship Program Duration

The pre-med internship program duration is flexible from a minimum of 2 weeks to a maximum of 24 weeks. Interns can choose the start date and end dates that suit your schedule and align with your schools requirement.


Activities & Shift

Interns participating in this program will engage in a very impactful and meaningful work experience focused shadowing doctors and nurses in a hospital or clinic setting. Interns begin the day with a wonderful sense of purpose arriving at the hospital or clinic facility, getting ready to contribute to the essential services provided by the facility.

You will immerse yourself within the facilities activities working alongside qualified and experienced supervisors/doctors committed to addressing vital health issues. Each intern role is important whether you are directly involved in assisting in therapy sessions, patients support, contributing to awareness, each step is important towards improving healthier.

Interns will have the opportunity make an impact as the day progresses, attending and participating in meetings within the hospital facility, learning about the wonderful aspect of mental healthcare in underserved communities in developing country.

Shifts & Schedule

Participants participate approximately 5-6 hours per day, 5 days per week depending on the workload available at the hospital or clinic. This volunteer schedule is flexible and may change depending on the activities by the hospital and the community needs such as weather conditions, outreach programs etc.

Weekends are free to explore whether participating in community health outreach programs or engaging in preventive health education while immersing yourself in local communities and their culture. You can also choose to explore the tour attraction sites in Ghana such as a visit to the Cape Coast Castle, Elmina Castle, Kakum National Park, Canopy walkway, Museums, Art Centre, Markola Market, and Independence Square in Accra etc.


Rules

• Participants applying for this program must have medical backgrounds or professionals in this field or alternatively student currently under study.
• Participants encouraged to be flexible, patient, open-minded, respect, abide by the rules of the placement activity, and willing to learn the culture of Ghana.
• Volunteers should communicate openly and respectfully with volunteer coordinators, supervisors etc regarding any challenges, schedule changes, or concerns.
• Safety instructions provided by the host organization should always be followed during activities and travel.
