Garden & orchard work at a historic lakeside parsonage
The experience
The vegetable garden sits on wonderfully fertile soil that fed families here for generations. It's being rebuilt step by step, and I'd love a hand turning over a strip with a motorised harrow, clearing out the weeds and their roots, and shaping the first bed — never alone, always together. It's work that asks more for strength and stamina than gardening expertise — swinging a spade, breaking new ground, feeling the soil give way underfoot — and a

Program Details
Volunteers get a private room and a home-cooked lunch each day, with full kitchen access in the evenings for self-catering. Fast fibre WiFi is available throughout, and a workspace (desk and chair) can be set up in your room on request. A bike is available to explore the area. The property is part of an early-stage Buddhist retreat house project, set in the Mecklenburg Lake District near Müritz National Park.
Activities & Shift
Typical days combine 3-4 hours of hands-on work on weekdays with three free days each week. Volunteers, including digital nomads, are free to organize their work hours around their own schedule, as long as the weekly total and agreed tasks are completed. Depending on the season, tasks include weeding and replanting the vegetable garden, pruning fruit trees, and harvesting apples, pears and grapes for pressing. No previous gardening experience is required.
Rules
This is a quiet, contemplative place, so we ask for no alcohol or drugs on the property. Our household is vegetarian — guests are welcome to eat meat, which can be stored in a dedicated guest fridge, but I won’t be cooking it myself. We have five resident cats, so unfortunately we're not able to accommodate guest pets. Beyond that: come as you are, and bring a respectful, easygoing attitude toward shared living.
