Program Details

We’re looking for a couple to take on a hands-on project improving the volunteer room where you’ll also be staying during your time at the farm. The work will include preparing and painting the room, cleaning and improving the wood stove area, reorganising furniture and storage, and helping us redesign the space to make it more practical and welcoming.

Because you’ll be living in the room while working on it, you’ll have the opportunity to experience the space firsthand and contribute ideas about what would make it work better for you and future volunteers. The room will be an active work area during the project, so you should be comfortable living around an ongoing renovation.

We expect you to be reliable, practical, willing to work independently, and comfortable with physical work. You don’t need professional renovation or design experience, but you should be confident using basic tools and willing to learn.

We’ll explain the project, discuss our ideas with you, and give you room to contribute your own suggestions. We expect you to take care with the property, work safely, keep the workspace organised, and communicate when you need help or clarification.

You should also expect to be living on an operational working farm. Farm life involves physical work, changing priorities, cleaning, maintenance, and getting dirty. Co-living responsibilities such as cooking, dinner preparation, washing dishes, and cleaning shared areas are shared by everyone living at the farm and are separate from your assigned project hours.

In return, you’ll have the opportunity to directly shape and improve the space you’re living in, contribute your own ideas, and leave the volunteer room substantially better than you found it.

Activities & Shift

Activities

You’ll be helping improve the volunteer room while staying in it, so you’ll have firsthand experience of the space and can contribute ideas about how to make it work better.

Your activities may include:

Preparing walls and surfaces for painting.
Repainting the volunteer room.
Cleaning and improving the wood stove area.
Deep cleaning the room and surrounding areas.
Moving and reorganising furniture.
Improving storage and use of available space.
Helping redesign the room layout.
Suggesting practical improvements based on your experience living in the room.
Repurposing or improving existing furniture and materials where possible.
Completing small practical repairs and improvements.
Keeping the room and work area clean and organised throughout the project.
The project will be completed in stages, so the specific tasks may change as the work progresses. You should expect the room to be an active work area while you are living in it.

Shifts

Your main renovation and improvement work will be completed during your agreed volunteer hours each day.

The exact schedule and tasks may vary depending on the stage of the project, weather, available materials, and other priorities on the farm.

Important: Cooking, dinner preparation, washing dishes, and cleaning shared living areas are co-living responsibilities shared by everyone staying at the farm. These responsibilities are additional to your assigned project hours and are organised through the shared household schedule.

As this is an operational working farm, you should expect physical work, cleaning, maintenance, and occasional changes to priorities. We’re looking for a couple who are comfortable adapting to what needs to be done and taking responsibility for their

Rules

Farm & Co-Living Rules

No smoking on the farm.

Respectful behaviour is expected at all times. Treat other volunteers, the farm, animals, property, and the local environment with respect.

Come ready to work, learn, and participate. This is an operational working farm, and tasks and priorities can change depending on what needs to be done.

Cooking and cleaning are shared responsibilities. Cooking, dinner preparation, washing dishes, and cleaning shared kitchen areas are scheduled and shared by everyone living at the farm. These responsibilities are separate from your assigned project hours.

Leave shared spaces clean and ready for the next person. Everyone contributes to keeping the house and communal areas comfortable for the group.
Take care of the volunteer room and farm property. Use tools, furniture, equipment, and materials responsibly and let us know if something needs attention.

For the renovation project, use common sense and communicate. You’re encouraged to bring your own ideas, but check with us before making significant changes, throwing away furniture or materials, or purchasing anything for the project.

Keep the work area reasonably safe and organised. Since you’ll be living in the room while working on it, keep tools, materials, dust, and other renovation items under control so the space remains usable.

We’re easy-going and flexible. These rules are here to make shared life and work run smoothly, not to make the farm feel formal or restrictive.
