Program Details

Awaken is a regenerative living and learning community in the heart of Costa Rica.

More than a traditional volunteer exchange, this is an immersive educational experience where practical learning, meaningful contribution, community life, and connection with nature come together.

Participants become part of the daily rhythm of our regenerative farm while learning through direct experience. No previous farming or permaculture experience is required. What matters most is curiosity, openness, respect, and a genuine willingness to learn and contribute.

The program includes:

• Accommodation.
• Daily breakfast.
• Communal lunch.
• Approximately 25 hours of hands-on learning from Monday to Friday.
• One educational workshop per week.
• One community activity per week.
• One weekly wellbeing session, such as yoga, functional training, breathwork, sound healing, or meditation.
• Starlink Wi-Fi.
• Laundry facilities.

Our approach brings together permaculture and sustainability, community living, holistic wellbeing, consciousness, creativity, and natural building.

We aim to create an environment where caring for the Earth, caring for people, and sharing knowledge become part of everyday life. 🌿

Activities & Shift

From Monday to Friday, mornings are dedicated to approximately 25 hours per week of hands-on learning and regenerative farm activities.

We normally begin around 7:00 a.m. with a short team gathering to introduce the day’s activities, priorities, and the regenerative principles behind the work.

Depending on the season, weather, and current farm projects, activities may include:

• Planting and transplanting.
• Harvesting.
• Composting.
• Mulching.
• Pruning.
• Soil regeneration.
• Preparing natural fertilizers.
• Food production.
• Food forest care.
• Tree planting.
• Nursery and greenhouse work.
• Ecological pest management.
• Other permaculture and regenerative projects.

Breakfast is shared around 9:00 a.m., followed by the second morning learning and work block until approximately 12:30 p.m.

Communal lunch is around 1:00 p.m.

Afternoons are generally free for rest, personal projects, community life, or optional activities.

Each week also includes:

• One educational workshop.
• One community activity.
• One wellbeing session.

Weekends are generally free to rest or explore the Nicoya Peninsula. 🌴

Nature guides our work, so activities may change depending on the weather, season, and current needs of the farm.
