Program Details

Welcome to Playa Tesoro, a remote beachfront eco-community on Nicaragua's beautiful Pacific coast.

We are currently rebuilding and developing our sea turtle conservation project, and we're looking for passionate, hardworking, and adventurous volunteers who want to be part of something meaningful.

This is more than just a volunteer opportunity.

Our turtle hatchery is being rebuilt as a tribute to the man who previously dedicated much of his life to protecting sea turtles along this coastline. After his passing, our goal became clear: continue his legacy and make sure the turtles continue to have a safe place to nest, hatch, and return to the ocean.

By joining us, you'll become part of that mission.

Depending on the season and turtle activity, volunteers may have the opportunity to participate in beach patrols, protecting and relocating nests, monitoring eggs, maintaining the hatchery, collecting conservation data, and witnessing the unforgettable moment when baby turtles make their journey toward the Pacific Ocean.

But life at Playa Tesoro is about much more than turtles!

We are a developing eco-community surrounded by beaches, mangroves, wildlife, and nature. Volunteers also help us with a variety of projects around the property, including gardening, trail building and maintenance, small construction projects, general maintenance, and helping us continue developing this unique place.

No two days are exactly the same, and we're looking for people who are adaptable, curious, and happy to get their hands dirty.

🌊 What your daily life might look like

Depending on the needs of the project, you could be:

🐢 Participating in sea turtle conservation activities
🌙 Joining beach patrols during turtle season
🥚 Protecting and monitoring turtle nests
🌱 Helping maintain

Activities & Shift

🏝️ Life at Playa Tesoro

Playa Tesoro is not a busy tourist destination.

We are located in a peaceful and remote coastal environment, surrounded by the Pacific Ocean, mangroves, wildlife, and wide-open beaches.

This experience is ideal for someone who enjoys nature and doesn't need nightlife, shopping centers, or restaurants within walking distance.

In your free time, you can enjoy the beach, surf, kayak, explore nature, relax under the stars, practice yoga, or simply disconnect from the fast pace of everyday life.

We also travel to León regularly, giving volunteers opportunities to explore one of Nicaragua's most beautiful colonial cities. Volunteers may also have access to discounted activities and tours through local tour operators.

🍽️ Accommodation and meals

We provide shared volunteer accommodation and three simple, home-cooked meals per day.

Our meals are prepared using locally available ingredients. Because of our remote location and limited access to specialty ingredients, we are unfortunately unable to accommodate specific dietary requirements.

🤝 Who we're looking for

"You don't need previous experience working with sea turtles.

What matters most is your attitude.

We're looking for volunteers who are:

• Passionate about nature and conservation
• Comfortable living in a remote environment
• Adaptable and independent
• Willing to do physical and sometimes dirty work
• Comfortable working as part of a small community
• Happy to help wherever needed
• Respectful of nature, animals, staff, and other volunteers
• Open to learning new skills

Experience in conservation, biology, construction, gardening, carpentry, photography, videography, social media, surfing, kayaking, hiking, yoga, or hospitality is always a bonus—but motivation and a good attitude a

### 🍺 Responsible behavior

We expect all volunteers to behave responsibly and respectfully toward staff, other volunteers, guests, animals, and the local community.

### 🐢 Respect the wildlife

We are a conservation project. Wildlife must always be treated with respect. Volunteers must follow instructions when handling turtle nests, eggs, hatchlings, or participating in conservation activities.

Because we are located in a remote area and medical services are not immediately nearby, volunteers with severe allergies or a history of anaphylaxis must bring their own prescribed emergency medication, including an EpiPen or equivalent if medically required.

Volunteers are responsible for informing us of any medical condition or allergy that could create an emergency during their stay.

### 🍽️ Food expectations

We provide three simple, home-cooked meals per day using locally available ingredients. Due to our remote location, we cannot guarantee accommodation of special dietary requirements, severe food allergies, or highly specific diets.

### 🌿 Remote lifestyle

Playa Tesoro is located in a remote area surrounded by nature. Volunteers should be comfortable being away from supermarkets, restaurants, nightlife, and large cities.
