Program Details

This is a working property in the forest, not a hostel. We are a
small team and a volunteer here is one more pair of hands, not a
separate programme running alongside the business.

You get a private room and all three meals. We do not charge any
fee. In exchange we ask for about 20 hours a week across three days,
with four days off to explore Dandeli, the Kali river and the Ghats.

We ask for two weeks minimum. The first few days are spent working
alongside our staff so you learn how we do things before you are
handed anything on your own. After that you will have real
responsibility.

What we want most is someone who is easy with people and reliable
about turning up. Everything else can be taught.

Activities & Shift

Guests are the heart of this position. Most people who come here are
on their first trip into the Ghats and do not know what to look for.
You will be the one who tells them — where the hornbills sit in the
morning, which walk is worth doing, what is worth eating. Sitting
with guests over breakfast, keeping an evening going, helping a
group settle in. If you enjoy people, this is the best part of the
work.

Alongside that: check-ins, check-outs, and answering questions about
the area.

Grounds and garden work most mornings — planting, clearing bush, and
training and shaping the bougainvillea along the paths. Outdoor work
in the sun, and the part of the day where you see what you have made.

Jungle walks: joining our walks on the property, learning the birds
and trees well enough to point them out to guests.

Kitchen: helping with prep and service when a group is staying.

Three working days a week, roughly six to seven hours a day. Grounds
work in the cooler morning hours, guests later in the day and into
the evening. The mix depends on who is staying that week.

Rules

This is a remote property. The nearest town is 7 km away and there
is no nightlife nearby. Come only if quiet suits you.

Guests are paying to be here and their experience comes first. Be
presentable and courteous around them, and keep common areas tidy.

Tell us in advance if you cannot make a shift. We plan around you.

Respect the forest — no feeding or approaching wildlife, no litter
on the trails, no loud music outdoors.

We are open September to July. Nights get cold in December and
January; bring something warm.
