Program Details

Welcome to House of Yousseph, a generations-old traditional mud house and eco-farm located in the Sahara, just 4 km from Tagounite.
This is more than a place to stay it is a home connected to the land, family, and traditions of the desert. We are restoring and developing the house after years of changes, using traditional materials and techniques such as making and working with mud bricks.
Around the house, we care for date palms, practice traditional agriculture, look after animals, and continue learning from the rhythms and knowledge of desert life.
As a volunteer, you can help with simple hands-on projects around the house and farm, while also sharing your own skills, ideas, and creativity. Depending on your interests, there may be opportunities to contribute to gardening, natural building, maintenance, creative projects, social media or other ideas that can bring your personal touch to the place.
We also enjoy sharing traditional Moroccan food, local culture, stories, and everyday life with our guests. In return, we hope to learn from you and create a genuine cultural exchange.
We are looking for curious, respectful, open-minded and creative travelers who want to slow down, experience authentic desert life, and become part of a small community rather than simply pass through as tourists.
House of Yousseph is a place we are building together one brick, one palm tree, one story at a time.

Activities & Shift

The activities at House of Yousseph vary naturally with the season and the needs of the land. Your help may include watering and caring for the date palms and plants, gardening, planting, harvesting, maintaining the farm, caring for animals, and supporting small eco-projects.
You may also have the opportunity to learn and participate in traditional mud-building and restoration, helping us bring new life to our generations-old home using local materials and techniques.
We usually ask for around 4–5 hours of help per day, 5 days a week, with 2 days free to rest, explore Tagounite and the surrounding Sahara, meet local people, take photos, work on your own creative projects, or simply enjoy the peaceful desert environment.
The work is hands-on and simple, but every task contributes to the development of House of Yousseph. We value initiative, teamwork and a willingness to learn and share skills.

Rules

We ask everyone to respect our family, our home, the local culture and the desert environment. Good communication, a positive attitude and willingness to help are important. Please keep shared spaces clean, use water responsibly and respect quiet time. We love creativity, music, conversation and sharing experiences, but we also value personal space and peaceful moments. Most times importantly, come with an open mind and respect for the land and the people who call it home.
