Program Details
Our volunteer program is designed for small groups of around 4–5 people staying for 2–3 weeks in Yawarani Village, a remote Indigenous community in the Amazon rainforest.
This is not a tourist program. Volunteers come to live with us, contribute to real community needs and experience daily life in the village with respect and openness.
We organize each period around the community's current priorities, such as agroforestry, traditional crop areas, maintenance of shared spaces and small community projects.
Life here is remote and different from city life. In return for your contribution, we provide accommodation, meals and access to Starlink internet. During your stay, you may also naturally experience forest trails, stories, music, traditional knowledge and community activities.
Some cultural activities, ceremonies or workshops may also be organized depending on the availability and interest of community members. These are not guaranteed or scheduled as part of the volunteer exchange.
Activities & Shift
Volunteers help 4 days per week, around 20 hours in total. We usually start in the morning, when temperatures are more comfortable. Some activities may continue in the afternoon when necessary, depending on the project, weather and community routine.
Tasks may include agroforestry planting and management, helping in traditional crop areas (roçados), clearing fast-growing vegetation, cutting grass, maintaining shared spaces, and small building or repair projects.
Tasks change according to the season and the real needs of the village. Please be prepared for physical outdoor work in a hot, humid tropical environment.
Rules
Respect for the community, its people, culture and privacy is essential.
Always ask permission before photographing or recording people, ceremonies or community activities. Do not assume that every cultural or spiritual practice is open to visitors.
Being welcomed into Yawarani Village does not automatically give permission to use the community, its people, ceremonies, stories, traditional knowledge or daily life to produce public or commercial content. If you intend to create content specifically about Yawarani or its people for social media, YouTube, documentaries, articles or other public projects, please discuss it with us first. The community must have a voice in how it and its culture are represented.
Media created as part of volunteer activities must be shared with Yawarani Village, and the community may use, reproduce, edit and publish this material for its own cultural, educational, communication, fundraising and promotional purposes.
Volunteers are expected to participate responsibly in the agreed work schedule, take care of shared spaces and communicate openly if they have any difficulty.
Please remember that you will be a guest in an Indigenous community, not at a resort. Be flexible with changes in plans, weather, transportation and daily routines. Life in the Amazon follows the conditions of the forest, river and community.
