Program Details
Welcome to our family-run hostel in Punta Arenas, at the gateway to Chilean Patagonia! We are a small and friendly hostel run by three siblings, and we want our volunteers to feel comfortable, welcomed and part of our home during their stay.
Our goal is to create a relaxed, respectful and international atmosphere where guests and volunteers from different parts of the world can meet, share experiences and enjoy Patagonia. We are looking for people who are responsible, proactive and happy to contribute to the daily life of the hostel.
The exchange consists of 4 hours of help per day, mainly supporting us with housekeeping and keeping the hostel clean, organized and welcoming for our guests. After your daily tasks are finished, you will have plenty of free time to explore Punta Arenas, discover the surrounding area, plan trips around Patagonia or simply relax and enjoy the hostel.
In exchange, we provide accommodation in a shared room, Wi-Fi, access to our fully equipped kitchen, laundry facilities and our common areas. Meals are not included, but you are welcome to use the kitchen to prepare your own food.
More than simply exchanging a few hours of help for accommodation, we hope this can be a warm and enjoyable experience where you feel at home, meet new people and experience everyday life in one of the southernmost cities in the world.
Activities & Shift
You will help us for 4 hours a day with the daily housekeeping at the hostel. The main tasks include cleaning bedrooms and bathrooms, making and changing beds, cleaning the kitchen and common areas, organizing spaces, and helping with laundry and bed linens.
Tasks may vary slightly depending on the hostel’s daily needs. We’re looking for someone who understands that cleaning—including bathrooms—is an important part of this role and who is comfortable helping out wherever needed during the agreed-upon hours.
Occasionally, and only when needed, we may also ask you to help welcome a guest or assist with a simple check-in. We will explain everything you need to know beforehand, so no previous reception experience is required.
We really appreciate proactive people who, instead of waiting to be told every little task, can notice when something needs attention and are happy to help keep the hostel clean, organized, and comfortable for everyone.
Rules
We want to maintain a friendly, respectful and comfortable environment for our guests, volunteers and family. For this reason, we ask everyone to be responsible, punctual and committed to the agreed tasks and hours.
Good communication is very important to us. If you have a problem, need to change something or do not understand a task, please talk to us openly. We also value a proactive attitude and expect volunteers to contribute as part of the team rather than waiting to be instructed about every small task.
Please respect the hostel, our guests, other volunteers and all shared spaces. Keep your personal belongings organized and clean up after yourself when using the kitchen, bathrooms and common areas.
Smoking is not allowed inside the hostel or in any of the bedrooms. We have an outdoor patio where you are welcome to smoke.
As we are a working hostel with paying guests, maintaining cleanliness, respecting quiet times and being considerate of others are essential. We want you to enjoy your stay and your free time, while also taking your commitment to the exchange seriously.
