Program Details
MONO International School welcomes volunteers to support programs in rural Thmor Bang, Cambodia, while experiencing local life and culture. We serve children from kindergarten through high school.
Our morning program is a registered kindergarten with age-level classes covering language, early mathematics, art, exercise, hygiene, hands-on learning, songs, and guided activities.
Our afternoon After-School Support Program serves Grades 1–6 with extra Khmer, English, mathematics, PE, life skills, character, leadership, discipline, respect, listening, and time management. Regular tests monitor progress.
MONO also offers English and skills classes for older students and is developing computer and digital skills training. Volunteers with relevant skills may assist when possible.
Volunteers may support English conversation with local teachers and join games, arts, crafts, sports, creative projects, decoration, painting, gardening, and other activities. Activities depend on volunteer skills and school needs. Volunteers should be responsible, respectful, patient, and comfortable working with children and young people.
Volunteers can experience rural Cambodian life and culture, with free time for hiking, fishing, swimming, and nature visits.
Volunteers stay in basic local accommodation and receive meals. Breakfast is simple and self-service; lunch and dinner are usually prepared at MONO. Kitchen access and weekend meals are available when staying at MONO.
The $30 daily fee covers traveller benefits only: accommodation, meals, electricity, water, basic internet, maintenance, volunteer support, kitchen access, and available local activities. It does not include project donations or activity materials. Special trips or activities may have additional costs.
Activities & Shift
Activities & Shifts
Volunteers normally help Monday to Friday, around 4–5 hours per day, with a flexible schedule arranged with MONO according to the school timetable and the volunteer’s skills.
Typical daily activities may include:
- Morning: Support English activities with different kindergarten groups.
- Afternoon: English conversation and speaking practice, educational activities, computers/digital skills, arts, sports, and other activities with primary students.
- Evening: Join part-time English classes with older students, including high school students, focusing on conversation, communication, cultural exchange, and real-life English practice.
A volunteer day may include several 50-minute class sessions with short breaks, rather than one continuous shift.
The exact schedule is arranged after arrival and may change according to school needs, student groups, and the volunteer’s strengths.
Volunteers may lead their own planned activities, especially English conversation and speaking practice, while working alongside MONO teachers and staff. Volunteers are not expected simply to observe.
