Program Details

We will offer room and board in exchange for help. We usually ask for three to five hours per day, five days per week, with two days off.

We are a small, two acre hobby farm located in the gulf islands off of Vancouver Island.

We have horses, miniature horses, a miniature donkey, sheep as well as dogs and cats.

We seek assistance with basic tasks and maintenance around our acreage. This year we are working on animal shelters and paddocks, building more gardens, and other misc projects.

We have a small, one room cabin to offer and travellers will have access to our shared home as well.

It is a very quiet island with no village or town. Many things are accessed by ferry.

Amenities include access to a bicycle, shared kayaks, a shared hot tub, a home gym and more.

We are LGBTQ+ friendly and non-religious. No issue with hosting those with other beliefs.

Activities & Shift

4-5 hours per day or 20 hours per week. These can be moved around to accommodate any outside plans, but is usually 9am - 12pm.

Routine tasks are feeding the livestock, ensuring they have access to clean water, picking their paddocks and checking the fence lines. This usually takes about 1-1.5 hours.

The remaining time is spent on various tasks around the property that can include: cutting blackberry vines, general landscaping, small uncomplicated building projects, and property maintenance.

In poor weather we can work on indoor projects.

Worldpackers may join us for our shared meals or make their own meals with ingredients we provide. We also stock the cabin with snacks and easy-access foods for those who prefer to be solitary.

Lunch and dinner are meals we make, and breakfast is usually prepared individually.

Rules

No drugs, no substance abuse, no visitors without prior approval.

Smoking or vaping in designated areas only.

We don’t tolerate discrimination or behaviours that seek to impose beliefs or views on others. We won’t impose our beliefs on you either :)

We are unable to accommodate vegans or those with life-threatening allergies. This is because we have limited access to alternative ingredients due to our remote location (no stores)

We can accommodate some disabilities but some may not find our accommodations or situation to be compatible with their needs. Please check with us. We would say that those who use wheelchairs, require regular medical interventions or who experience low vision may find our rugged location very challenging.
