👦👧Help orphaned & neglected children with their English skills.
The experience
No teaching required, no Khmer language skills required. The children are in school most of the day, so we just need you to hang out with them in a casual setting when they are not in school, and simply interact with them in English. They attend English classes but since the staff and their teachers speak Khmer, they have little opportunity to practice conversational English. They will LOVE talking with you! And you will LOVE their smiles!

Program Details
eGlobal Family, a Hawaii based US nonprofit organization, founded and supprts the Aloha Learning Center near Phnom Penh, Cambodia. This is a war-ravaged country with extreme poverty. These conditions have led to broken families who are unable to care for their children. We rescue impoverished and undernourished children from remote villages and provide them with consistent education, healthy meals, clean water, medical care and nuturing love and support for the first time in their lives. In our residential program, they graduate from school and go on to college or trade school. They develop computer skills and learn English at ALC. They learn how to grow, harvest and prepare their own meals and become highly employable and productive citizens. Our program breaks the cycle of poverty in these families and indeed, in entire villages as they take these skills back to their villages and teach others!"
Activities & Shift
There are approx. 50 kids who live at ALC and others who live at college or go home at night. Half the children are in State school in the morning and half in the afternoon. After school, six days a week, they attend English and computer skills at ALC. They also garden and cook. You would be interacting with them after school in a casual setting, maybe during play time and meal time, and speak with them in English, encouraging them to speak English back. (They LOVE doing this!) We think it would be no more than 6 hours/day, 5 days/week.
Rules
Our founder's home (vacant) is nearby and you would stay there enjoying residential amenities. You would have three meals/day at the Center with the kids. Traditional Cambodian food, mostly vegitarian. We ask for $600/month for room, utilities and meals.
