Program Details

We are finishing conditioning the second floor of our hostel in Urubamba, in the heart of the Sacred Valley, and we are looking for volunteers with practical experience to help us with this last stage of the project.

We are mainly looking for two profiles:

Woodwork
People who know how to take measurements, make precise cuts, assemble and fasten elements, especially to manufacture beds and other furniture using wood and OSB boards.

Ceramics and majolica
People with experience in surface preparation, cuts, placement, leveling, application of grout and clean finishes in bathrooms and other spaces.

It is not necessary to master both specialties. The important thing is to have real experience in at least one of them and be able to work autonomously, carefully and responsibly.

You will work directly with us. We will organize together the different stages of the project and explain what we need to do, but we are looking for people who can understand a task, propose or choose the appropriate method and execute it without needing constant supervision.

It is an opportunity for those who enjoy building, renovating and seeing the concrete result of their work, participating in the creation of a welcoming hostel in the Andes.

Activities & Shift

Activities will depend on your specialty and the stage of the project we are working on.

If you have experience in wood:

Take measurements and mark pieces.

Make precise cuts.

Assemble and fasten structures.

Fabricate and assemble beds and other elements with wood and OSB.

Review and improve finishes.

Keep tools and the workspace organized.

If you have experience in ceramics:

Prepare surfaces.

Measure and perform cuts.

Place ceramic tiles and majolica.

Level and check the finishes.

Apply grout.

Carry out the finishes and leave the workspace clean and organized.

There may also be small organization and cleaning tasks directly related to the work performed.

Schedules

The collaboration will be 25 hours per week, organized by mutual agreement according to the stage of the project.

We like to work flexibly and we can adapt the schedules when you want to have time to get to know Urubamba, travel or explore the Sacred Valley. The important thing is to coordinate it beforehand with us to organize the work.

We do not look for you to be busy simply to meet hours. We prefer to work with clear objectives and make good use of the collaboration time.

Rules

Work always in a responsible and safe way with tools and materials.
Take care of the tools, equipment and spaces of the project.
Keep the workspace clean and tidy after each day.
Let us know if a tool, material or installation has any problem.
Respect the schedules and agreements established between us.
If you need to change your schedule or miss a day to travel or get to know the area, simply coordinate it with us in advance.
Maintain a good coexistence and respect for the people who live and work on the project.
