Program Details

Join me in restoring a beautiful historic home in the heart of a medieval town in the Lot, in southwest France. I bought the house a few years ago and am gradually renovating it while trying to preserve its original character and atmosphere.

The house is quite large and has a lot of potential, but there is still plenty to do! Some of the larger and more technical renovation work will be carried out by professional tradespeople, while volunteers can help with the many smaller jobs that surround the main projects.

This is a good opportunity for someone who enjoys practical work, learning new skills and seeing a renovation project gradually take shape. You don\'t need to be an experienced builder or DIY expert. What matters most to me is that you are reliable, curious, willing to learn and happy to get your hands dirty.

You\'ll have your own private bedroom, bathroom and toilet, giving you plenty of privacy and your own comfortable space during your stay.

The house is located right in the historic centre of a beautiful medieval town, surrounded by villages, castles, rivers, hiking trails and countryside. There are plenty of opportunities for hiking, cycling, swimming, exploring old villages or simply relaxing.

Activities & Shift

The exchange is based on around 25 hours of help per week, normally organised over five days, with weekends free. The exact schedule can be flexible depending on the work that needs to be done.

Tasks may include:

• General DIY and light maintenance
• Painting and finishing work
• Insulation work
• Light plumbing
• Basic electrical work
• Installing flooring or other materials
• Assembling and installing furniture or equipment
• Dismantling and preparing areas for renovation
• Moving and carrying materials
• Cleaning and preparing work areas
• Helping with various practical jobs around the house

You don\'t need to know how to do all of these things. I\'ll explain the tasks and show you how to do them, and whenever possible we\'ll work together.

The exact activities will vary depending on the stage of the renovation. Some days may involve more physical work, while others may be lighter. The idea is to make the exchange useful and interesting without making the renovation your entire stay.

Rules

I expect volunteers to be respectful, reliable, reasonably tidy and willing to participate. Safety is particularly important because this is an active renovation site, so some areas or tools may be off-limits depending on what work is taking place.

Food is not included in the exchange. Volunteers are responsible for buying and preparing their own food. You are welcome to use the kitchen and prepare whatever you like. We can of course share meals, have a drink or cook together from time to time, but I don\'t expect volunteers to cook regular meals for me.

I work remotely alongside the renovation, so I\'m looking for people who are comfortable having some independence and their own routine. At the same time, I enjoy meeting people from different countries and backgrounds and I\'m always happy to chat, share a meal or a drink and show you around when I have time.
