Program Details

For this particular position, we’re looking for someone who is naturally social, confident and comfortable around people. The main goal is to help create a welcoming atmosphere in the evenings, make guests feel included and encourage people to connect.

We are not a party hostel, so this role is not about drinking or creating a loud environment. It’s about being approachable, bringing people together and helping the hostel feel friendly and social.

Most of our volunteers also find paid work locally alongside their volunteering hours, so the schedule still leaves plenty of time during the day.

Activities & Shift

This position is mainly based around evening shifts.

Your main responsibilities will include spending time in the common areas, chatting with guests, welcoming new arrivals and helping people connect.

You’ll also organise at least one simple social activity per week, such as trivia, paint & sip, a pool or ping pong competition, games night or another activity you’d like to suggest.

You may need to assist guests with our self check-in kiosk if they have trouble using it, answer simple questions and help with any leftover laundry if needed.

At the end of the evening, you’ll help tidy and clean the kitchen and common areas and assist with closing the hostel around 10:30–11pm.

Rules

We ask our volunteers to be reliable, respectful and genuinely willing to be involved in hostel life.

Quiet hours begin at 11pm and must always be respected. Part of this role is helping us maintain that relaxed atmosphere and politely reminding guests when the common areas are closing.

Drinking is fine in moderation, but volunteers are still representing the hostel while on shift and need to remain responsible and approachable.

Please be honest with yourself before applying for this position. It really suits someone who naturally enjoys talking to strangers, taking initiative and being social. You don’t need to be loud or the centre of attention, but you do need to be comfortable engaging with guests rather than waiting for them to come to you.

Good communication with the team is very important, especially if you’re unsure about a guest situation or need help.
