Program Details
I'm looking for someone to help during the reindeer sorting season in Northern Norway.
The main task is helping in the reindeer corral, mostly in the evenings. This involves working with the reindeer inside the corral, rather than herding them out on the mountain.
The schedule is difficult to plan in advance, and I often only know when help is needed on the day itself. You should therefore be comfortable with flexible arrangements and changes to plans.
There may also be some daytime tasks, such as feeding the reindeer and helping with small errands. At home, I would appreciate help with cooking and keeping my young daughter entertained while I get things done.
You’ll get to share in everyday life with a Sámi family, with tasks varying depending on what is needed that day.
Activities & Shift
Help in the reindeer corral is mainly needed in the evenings. There can be quite a bit of waiting, and plans may change at short notice. Our days are shaped by the reindeer, nature and the weather, so I often only know the timing on the day itself. Patience and flexibility are important.
During the day, tasks may include feeding the reindeer, small errands, cooking or playing with my young daughter while I get things done.
Rules
Please respect our home, Sámi culture and family routines, and tidy up after yourself.
When working in the reindeer corral, follow the instructions you are given and ask if anything is unclear. Treat the animals calmly and respectfully.
Be considerate of my young daughter, especially when she is sleeping, and check with me before sharing photos of her online.
