Program Details

Join our international hostel team in Malta and gain hands-on experience across food and beverage operations. This role combines breakfast service, basic food preparation, kitchen organisation and beverage service, with opportunities to support selected Ferra Mobile Bar events around Malta.

The programme is normally around 20 hours per week with at least 2 days off. We provide accommodation in a shared team dorm, daily self-service breakfast, use of our equipped kitchen, weekly laundry, Wi-Fi and role-specific training. Team members may also join selected hostel activities and community dinners or BBQs when organised.

Flexibility is important in this position. Depending on the weekly schedule, you may support breakfast, food preparation, hostel beverage service or selected external mobile-bar activities.

Minimum stay is 4 weeks, although 6–8 weeks or longer is strongly preferred.

Activities & Shift

Your activities may include preparing and setting up breakfast, replenishing food and drinks, basic cooking and food preparation, clearing and cleaning the breakfast area, washing equipment and dishes, organising kitchen and bar stock and helping maintain clean and safe food-service areas.

Depending on the weekly roster, you may also support hostel beverage service, prepare simple drinks and cocktails from an agreed menu, organise fridges and glassware, assist with stock counts and complete opening or closing procedures.

Selected scheduled hours may occasionally take place with Ferra Mobile Bar at events around Malta. These may include preparation, loading, setup, beverage service, customer interaction, breakdown, cleaning and stock reconciliation.

This role requires flexibility across both food and beverage tasks. We do not recruit separate team members exclusively for breakfast or exclusively for bartending; successful applicants should be willing to learn and support the wider F&B operation according to the weekly needs.

Shifts are organised in advance and may include mornings, evenings and occasional event schedules. External event hours form part of your normal weekly schedule rather than automatically being additional hours.

Rules

Food hygiene, cleanliness and responsible service are essential. All food, kitchen and beverage procedures must be followed carefully.

Preparation areas, equipment, dishes, bar areas and service spaces must be properly cleaned at the end of each scheduled shift.

Food and beverage stock must not be taken for personal use without permission, and wastage or shortages should be reported.

Alcohol must never be consumed before or during scheduled duties. Responsible and professional behaviour is required whenever serving guests.

Only approved drinks, recipes, portions and prices should be used during Bookarest or Ferra service.

External Ferra shifts may involve standing for longer periods, setup and breakdown of equipment and working in a busy event environment.

Reliability is particularly important because breakfast and event service operate at fixed times. Please arrive on time and communicate as early as possible if there is a genuine issue affecting your schedule.
