Program Details

🌴 Welcome to Finca MiraVida!
We're a family of four slowly bringing our ideas to life on a beautiful jungle property on Costa Rica's Caribbean coast. For this position, we'd love to meet people who enjoy practical projects, creative problem-solving and working with their hands.
🔨 What will you be doing?
Joel loves building, experimenting and finding new ways to improve our finca. You'll often work alongside him, exchanging ideas and helping with projects that match your skills and interests.
Projects may include:
• Carpentry, woodworking and making furniture
• Building or improving playgrounds and jungle pathways
• Helping finish our sauna and other outdoor spaces
• Assisting with doors, windows, kitchen installation or interior finishing
• Gardening, landscaping and improvements around the finca
• Preparing materials or assisting with suitable solar and water-system tasks under qualified supervision
Experience with construction, carpentry or general DIY is especially welcome, but nobody needs to be an expert at everything. We appreciate initiative, curiosity and people who are happy to share what they know.
Safety matters to us. You'll never be expected to take on work you're not qualified or comfortable doing; specialized or potentially dangerous tasks are for appropriately qualified people.
🏡 Your jungle accommodation
You'll stay in our volunteer house, about a 10-minute walk from our family home. It has solar electricity, running water, two separate lockable bedrooms, a shared bathroom, a fully equipped communal kitchen, and a living and dining area. Depending on occupancy, you may share a bedroom with another volunteer.
We hope to add a few small cabins around the house in the future, creating a little volunteer community with shared facilities.

Activities & Shift

The day depends on the project, the weather and everyone's experience. You might start by planning with Joel, then help with woodworking, furniture, interior finishing, pathways, playgrounds, landscaping or keeping tools and workspaces organized.
We usually prefer starting early, while it's cooler. We'll agree on tasks, working hours and days off before you arrive, in line with the conditions listed for this position. There should be plenty of time to relax and enjoy the surroundings, too.
Please only use tools you're comfortable with. Technical or potentially dangerous work requires appropriate qualifications and supervision.

Rules

We want everyone to feel safe, welcome and at home here.

• Mutual Respect: Please be considerate of our family, children, animals, other volunteers and the surrounding nature.
• Alcohol and Drugs: No drugs or excessive alcohol consumption.
• Safety First: Use tools only when you know how to handle them. Never attempt electrical or other technical installations without the right qualifications and permission.
• Shared Spaces: Keep common areas tidy and treat tools and facilities with care.
• Communication: If you're unsure about something or need help, please tell us.
• Privacy: Respect other volunteers' space and belongings.
• Resources: Use solar electricity and water thoughtfully.

We're in a remote jungle setting, so expect rain, insects, wildlife and the occasional muddy path. We appreciate people who enjoy nature, take initiative and communicate openly.
