Program Details
Microfinance involves providing loans and other basic financial services to individuals and groups who may have limited or no access to traditional banking services. These loans are typically repaid over an agreed period, enabling beneficiaries to invest in small businesses, improve their livelihoods, and strengthen their financial independence. As a volunteer or intern, you will support the implementation and monitoring of these initiatives while assisting with the daily operations necessary for their effective management.
Your responsibilities will include reviewing loan application forms, maintaining and reconciling daily financial records, conducting exit interviews with beneficiaries who have completed their loan repayment, updating beneficiary profiles, monitoring repayment status, and conducting field visits to assess beneficiaries’ progress and facilitate loan repayments.
Volunteers and interns who commit to a longer period will have the opportunity to take on more advanced responsibilities. These may include conducting in-depth financial and program report analyses, projecting long-term financial growth, reviewing microfinance policies and procedures, and contributing to the design and development of new microfinance initiatives.
Through this experience, you will gain practical knowledge of microfinance operations, financial management, community development, and poverty reduction while contributing to efforts that expand economic opportunities and improve livelihoods in Ghana.
