🌴 Welcome to our jungle family!
We're an international family of four with German, Portuguese and Belgian roots, living on a 67-hectare finca near Cahuita. Our children are 4 and 7, and we share our home with dogs, farm animals and plenty of jungle wildlife.
❤️ How could you help?
Our routine changes with school, holidays and family life. Right now, we'd especially appreciate help with:
• Preparing meals and sharing recipes from your home country
• Keeping the kitchen and family living spaces tidy and organized
• Occasionally helping with laundry and other light household tasks
• Helping with homework or enjoying games, reading, crafts and outdoor activities with the children
• Light gardening, caring for plants or small projects such as planting and looking after a herb garden
During school holidays, there may be more opportunities for creative learning, languages, art, music and nature activities with the children. An interest in Montessori, Waldorf or alternative education is lovely, but certainly not essential.
You won't be expected to do everything! We'll talk about what you enjoy and what suits our family's needs. Any childcare responsibilities will be discussed clearly in advance.
🏡 Your jungle accommodation
You'll stay in our volunteer house, about a 10-minute walk from our family home. It has solar electricity, running water, two separate lockable bedrooms, a shared bathroom, a fully equipped communal kitchen, and a living and dining area. Depending on occupancy, you may share a bedroom with another volunteer.
🌿 Location & transportation
Our finca is tucked away in the jungle, far from shops and restaurants. The access road is still being developed and currently requires a capable 4x4 vehicle. We're happy to pick you up when you arrive.
Activities & Shift
Our days are flexible and depend on our family's needs, your interests, and the children's learning journey.
Our children are 4 and 7 years old, and we love the idea of creating a natural, creative, and inspiring learning environment where they can explore their interests, develop practical skills, and learn through play, projects, and real-life experiences.
Our big dream is to create a little Jungle School based on project-based, hands-on learning, creativity, curiosity, and nature!
Your activities might include:
- Helping the children with reading, writing, mathematics, and other educational activities
- Creating fun, hands-on projects based on their interests
- Exploring nature, gardening, science experiments, arts and crafts, music, or sports together
- Practicing languages through games, conversations, and storytelling
- Encouraging independence, creativity, curiosity, and everyday life skills
- Cooking, preparing meals, tidying up, and helping with light household tasks, ideally involving the children so they can learn through everyday activities
- Bringing your own ideas, talents, and creativity into our daily life
We especially welcome people who are passionate about alternative education, Montessori, Waldorf, homeschooling, or project-based learning. Teaching experience is a wonderful bonus, but patience, creativity, enthusiasm, and a genuine connection with children are just as important!
Every day can be different! Some days might be full of creative learning projects, while others involve cooking together, exploring the jungle, gardening, or discovering something completely new.
We'll agree on activities, working hours, and days off before your arrival, respecting the conditions listed for this position.
