Program Details

Although we sometimes make individual agreements, generally we ask 20 hours a week over 5 days, in exchange for accommodation and lunch. Usually someone will work alongside the volunteers until they have grasped the responsibility in any given role but you could be working in a team, with a more experienced volunteer, a community member or working independently. We do try to give people a mix team work and more focused independent work.

Activities & Shift

There are a lot of responsibilities in the garden and food Forrest. You could be mulching around the many trees, picking fruit or olives, uplanting small plants to bigger pots, weeding, digging and preparing a garden bed using different methods (hugelculture, lasagna bed), planting seeds or plants out. Also more landscaping based like making pathways with small flat rocks or adding some steps to replace a slope.

However, we also have a lot of work with projects and materials that need may screwing, nailed in, varnished, painted, decorated, erected, replaced, improved etc like repairing a shed, sawing wood, improving a plant greenhouse. There will also be opportunities to learn crafts and skills like making a traditional pizza oven using mud and straw or making a mosaic with broken tiles on a table top for example.

Well try to give you a balanced workload, not always to strenuous, some lighter tasks to match with the weather too.

Unless there is a event taking place at the time of your visit, usually the volunteer hours are from 9am until around 1pm depending on how long a mid morning break we take together. Then after a break for showering and maybe some people help with cooking we eat around 2pm. A very Spanish style that suits the climate here! The you have the afternoon and evening free to explore the island the local hikes and coastline nearby.

Rules

There are not a lot of big rules. Quiet time from 11pm unless there is an organised event or party. We'll often celebrate our week on Friday evening with some food and music together (live instruments or DJing) ! Either here or at a nearby event. 🥳

Some obvious rules like; Limited time in showers if we're busy. Replace any items you break or destroy. Only using organic products in the showers that contact our food Forrest. Keeping food items out of accommodation and in the designated boxes. Don't help your self to fruit without asking. There is advice available on site to explain how to use the kitchen/ compost toilet/ shower (domestic rules etc)

We generally trust everyone to respect the place and eachother and if this was not the case there would be an immediate review. We would ask people who wish to get very intoxicated to avoid doing so on the farm and not to return here in a mess. While mild and responsible use of alcohol etc is tolerated it's not encouraged, especially if your behaviour is negatively impacting others. The majority of people coming here are here to learn and contribute while using the free time to follow healthy pursuits like hiking, beach time, excercise, yoga etc it's a truly beautiful location with panoramic views to the sea, hopefully that will inspire you to immerse yourself in nature and enjoy the riches on offer in this beautiful location! There is also a lot of access in the local community to healing therapies, live music, yoga etc 👍
