My stay at the guest house was great, I spent there the busiest month of the year, but although the high volume of work I felt it like a place of peace and pure positive energy. the guest house is a small village, far from everything, which can be a challenge for some, but personally it's what makes this place so unique and special. I had the possibility to experience the real local culture far away from any tourist crowds, and practice my Japanese. The workflow was somewhat challenging, but helped me get stronger and I'm so grateful for that. Marie and Jordan are amazing hosts and brought us around to visit

My time in the guest house was lovely, both Marie and Jordan where very receiving and accomodating, all around lovely to work with. The house we lived in is a work in progress but it has lots of potential, I can't wait to see it when the project is more advanced. One thing that would make the experience an 11 out of 10 would be to improve the toilet situation, as currently it is a "rental toilet". I'm really looking forward to visit again in the future and see the progress, since Marie and Jordan are constantly putting their full effort in the improvement of everything around them.

I love staying so close to the beach! The only problem was that the staff house is 200 years old and it wasn't properly cleaned, the smell of humidity and dust was intense. And we had to da deep cleaning to be able to breath properly. This guesthouse in seasonal, so it's only opened for like 4 months and then closed for 8 months. So everytime it's summer the staff house must be thoroughly cleaned by the volunteers. They give you milk, eggs and bacon for breakfast but you must buy your own spices. They give you lots of work so you have to come prepared for that. Overall I enjoyed my stay.

Dear Paola,

I appreciate the time and effort you contributed during your stay. I’m sorry to hear that your experience wasn’t quite what you had expected. Cleaning the volunteer accommodation was included as part of the shared responsibilities, so a nice clean, fresh space could be made. This was explained when everyone arrived. I also noticed that you seemed to be quite sensitive to dust, which may have made some of the cleaning work more uncomfortable for you.

The experience we had at the guest house was truly amazing. We learned so much every day, doing new things like painting, decorating, and making coffee. I want to thank Marie for being such a wonderful person and an incredible host, always making sure we had everything we needed and that we got to know Maizuru and its surroundings. It's an experience I would recommend a thousand times, and I really hope to come back soon.

This was our very first volunteer experience, and we honestly have no words to describe how happy, grateful, and fulfilled we feel after it. Marie is a wonderful woman who made us feel right at home and was always attentive to our needs. She helped us discover Maizuru, the guest house, and the surrounding areas in a deeper way. The tasks we worked on were meaningful and we managed to complete them in a short time. We truly hope to return someday — the guest house will forever stay in our hearts.

I loved staying at the guest house, falling asleep and waking up to the waves crashing on the beach. Marie was a great host, I got to take part in unique local cultural experiences. Due to the summer heat the work schedule was pretty flexible, I had a lot of fun doing a wide variety of jobs. Thank you Marie!

This experience was amazing. I learned so much about the local culture and language. It's a truly quiet and relaxing area that was a much welcomed break from the big cities. In addition Marie is an amazing host and takes care of her workers. She even took me to the doctor when I got sick. She is also very clear on tasks and what is expected of you and creates a sense of mutual respect where everything gets done and you have an authentic Japanese experience.
