Program Details
MACA Village (Mawuvi African Culture and Art) is a growing community-based initiative that brings together sustainable agriculture, environmental conservation, youth empowerment, cultural heritage and community tourism. Located in the beautiful Volta Region of Ghana, MACA Village offers volunteers an opportunity to experience everyday Ghanaian life, exchange knowledge and contribute to meaningful community projects.
Our vision is to develop MACA Village into a welcoming space for sustainable living, cultural learning, recreation, creativity and community development.
Our Farm and Sustainable Living
Through our Agblekorpe sustainability project, we promote responsible food production, environmental awareness and practical learning. We are interested in organic farming practices, composting, tree planting, soil care, waste reduction and growing a deeper appreciation for the relationship between people, food and nature.
Volunteers can participate in seasonal farm activities, help maintain the growing space, exchange ideas about sustainable agriculture and contribute to developing a more environmentally responsible community.
Culture, Art and Community Life
MACA Village celebrates the rich cultural heritage of the Ewe people and the wider Volta Region. Volunteers can learn about local food, traditional music, dance, crafts, storytelling, farming traditions and community life.
We welcome cultural exchange as a two-way learning experience. Volunteers are encouraged to share their own traditions, ideas and skills while learning respectfully from local people.
Nature and Community Tourism
Our location provides opportunities to explore the natural and cultural attractions of the Volta Region, including waterfalls, mountains, wildlife sanctuaries, local markets and tradions.
Activities & Shift
Our volunteers usually spend their mornings supporting Agblekorpe Sustainability Farm through planting, gardening, composting and other seasonal agricultural activities. We also work on environmental conservation, tree planting and improving our eco-village.
Afternoons offer opportunities for cultural exchange, traditional cooking, arts and crafts, community tourism and sharing personal skills. Volunteers have time to rest, connect with local people and explore the beautiful Volta Region.
Activities vary according to the season, project needs and volunteers’ interests. We aim to create a balanced experience of learning, contribution, cultural immersion and relaxation.
Working hours and rest days will be agreed upon in advance, with appropriate breaks and consideration for the weather.
