Program Details

This is an all-round role on a small team. Some days you'll be behind the bar making coffee and hosting a big-screen game night. Other days you'll be out at a waterfall or canyon helping set up camp. Tell me what you're good at and what you want to learn, and we'll build your week around that.

WHAT I EXPECT FROM YOU
- Reliability. Show up on time for your shifts and trips, and tell me early if something changes.
- A friendly, social attitude. The bar is a meeting point for travellers, expats and locals, and you'll be part of what makes people feel welcome.
- Conversational Spanish, enough to chat with guests, partners and neighbours.
- Respect for the local culture. We visit Tzotzil and Tseltal communities, and I'll show you how to do that respectfully, including where photos aren't allowed.
- Taking care of the space, the bikes and the camping gear as if they were your own.
- Looking after guests on bar crawls: keep the group together and make sure everyone gets home safely.
- A one-month minimum stay, so you have time to really settle in and become part of the team.
- Honest communication. Every two weeks we'll sit down and check that we're both happy.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FROM ME
- 4-5 hours a day, 5 days a week, with 2 full days off. Late game nights count toward your hours, so they mean a shorter day or a later start the next day.
- A dorm or private room (depending on availability), hot showers, fast WiFi, a kitchen you're free to use and washing machines.
- Eggs, bread and basics stocked for breakfast and snacks, a family dinner once or twice a week, and free or very cheap meals at our partner hostel across the street.
- Discounts on scooter rentals and on all our tours and expeditions, so you can explore Chiapas on your days off for less.

Activities & Shift

You'll work about 4-5 hours a day, 5 days a week, with 2 full days off. The schedule changes from week to week depending on tours, bookings and game nights. We plan it together at the start of each week, so you always know your shifts and days off in advance.

TYPES OF SHIFTS
- Bar and coworking shift (day): make coffee and pour beer, welcome guests, keep the space clean and social, and help travellers book tours and rentals.
- Game night (evening): set up the big screen for soccer, baseball, American football and more, serve drinks and host the crowd.
- Bar crawl (evening): meet the group at the bar, co-host the crawl through San Cristóbal's mezcal, craft-beer and pox spots, keep everyone together and make sure everyone gets home safely.
- Trip day: help on day trips and camping expeditions to waterfalls, canyons, Maya ruins and jungle lakes. Set up camp, cook, carry gear, translate and take photos along the way.
- Bikes and gear: wash and prep motorcycles and scooters between rentals, help with basic maintenance and look after the camping kit.
- Around town: drop flyers at hostels and cafés and invite people to game nights and bar crawls.

HOW WE BALANCE THE HOURS
- Tour days can be long, so we balance them with shorter days or extra time off.
- Late game nights and bar crawls count toward your hours, so they mean a shorter day or a later start the next day.
- If you want to put in extra time, there are extra perks for that, but it's always optional.
- Once you're settled in, you can lead bar crawls or motorcycle tours (after a riding check) for extra perks. This is optional too.

Rules

- Minimum stay is one month. Every two weeks we'll check in to make sure we're both happy.
- Be on time for your shifts and trips. If something changes, tell me as early as you can.
- Treat the bar, your room, the bikes and the camping gear with care, and clean up after yourself in shared spaces and the kitchen.
- No drinking on shift.
- No smoking inside. Non-smokers preferred.
- Respect the local communities. Follow the photo rules in Indigenous villages (no photos inside the church in Chamula) and always ask before photographing people.
- Volunteers never ride client bikes alone. Leading moto or scooter tours requires a valid motorcycle licence and a riding check with me.
- On bar crawls, the group's safety comes first: keep everyone together and make sure everyone gets home.
- Couples and pets by arrangement only. Message me before you apply.
- Be kind and respectful to guests, neighbours, partners and each other. This is a small team and a shared home.
