My experience at castle house Bnb was so lovely! I felt right at home from the very start because the atmosphere is very cozy and friendly. John is such a kind and funny person and his Bnb is absolutely great. Also really loved John’s bike that we were able to use because I really got to see some of the beautiful Area better:))) Unfortunately I did fall of the bike because I wasn’t looking at the road but thankfully John and his sister took care of my after. I am so grateful to them! Thank you for all your help and care and especially the great experience!!!

It was my first volunteer experience and it couldn't have gone better! John is helpful and kind in explaining the tasks the volunteers have and finding compromises if necessary. The BnB is near some beautiful beaches, and if you want to visit the surrounding area, John will gladly offer to accompany you to the nearest bus stop. It's the right place if you want to relax and it's also wonderful to be able to create bonds with the other volunteers that work there.

My first volunteering experience with John at the guest house has been an amazing one. I spent one month in the BnB and it felt like a second home. John is an amazing person who goes out of his way for the volunteers, cooking them amazing dishes, giving recommendations about what to visit and most importantly, making everyone feel welcomed. The tasks are simple and don't even feel like work when you are chatting with John at the same time:) Even when the BnB is really busy, John always make sure that you have your time off. I even had the chance to help him with his horses which I loved to do!

Had such a great volunteering experience here! John is an absolute legend 🥹 he's super kind, easy-going and genuinely one of the nicest people you'll meet! he was always happy to have a chat! the volunteering itself is straightforward, I mean, once you understand the process, everything runs smoothly and John is always there to explain things and make sure you feel comfortable u'll also have plenty of time to explore the beautiful surroundings, which makes the experience even more special. I'm really grateful for the opportunity and only wish I could have stayed longer!

I felt really welcomed in this house. I had fun experiences and learnt a lot. John is an amazing cook and he always makes sure you feel welcomed and are cared for.
The work was manageable and it was really fun helping with the horses.
John made sure we would see important landscapes and drove us to other places if needed.

I have mixed feelings about this experience. The location is beautiful and tasks are easy, but you are isolated with no public transit, relying entirely on John.
Crucially, accommodation for volunteers (mostly young women) is not ideal: rooms have no private bathroom, the indoor toilet only has a tiny sink, and to shower you must use a messy outdoor bathroom shared with the host.
John is a good cook, though very work-focused. Meeting other WP girls made the stay enjoyable, but I wouldn’t recommend this for a first-time volunteer unless you prioritize solitude over basic privacy and comfort.

I'm grateful to John for a memorable B&B stay. The area is lovely (beach, Diamond Hill), but isolated—no bus or taxi, just a local shop (open till 9pm). John was kind, cooked great meals, and gave lifts. The room was cozy with good Wi-Fi; the shared shower is very tight and camp-like. John runs it alone, so we worked overtime a few times to get work done. At least 3 volunteers are needed (ask in advance). Living with a host set in his ways is a true cultural immersion! It might not suit everyone, especially as a solo woman. I was very lucky to share my time with amazing Laura and Marjo. Thx!

The work has been easy and the hours respected. The area is breathtaking and the BnB is 5 mins from the sea. You will get three meals but for lunch the kitchen is at your disposal to cook yourself, for dinner you'll always have amazing meals cooked by John. The room is comfortable, clean and warm. I had an amazing time and I'm convinced many other volounteers will. But the place is really isolated and not connnected by public transportation or taxi, so if you need anything you would have to rely on john avalability to move to the nearest bus station, and not everyone can be confortable with that

Overall, I had a fine experience. The surroundings were amazing and John always drove us to places that were farther away. His dinners were great and we had interesting conversations about politics and culture. However, some things made me feel uneasy. A few hygiene standards were very questionable (reusing served food etc.) Moreover, most of the time I didn’t feel like the volunteer work was being appreciated although it is essential to running the B&B.
Still, with an amazing co-volunteer, I had a pleasant time and learned a lot about Ireland. I wish John and his sister all the best!

The workload was manageable and easy to understand. The surrounding and the place were nice. But they were many communication issues during this stay that could have been avoided.
