Be careful with this “opportunity”!!
There are 2 hostels: Central the hostel, what most of the reviews refer to; and the hostel. Central the hostel is managed by Omar. the hostel is managed by Omar's son, Jorge, who definitely doesn't understand the idea of “volunteering” and is just looking for someone to clean the toilets/common areas and serve the breakfast.
When I got there, he put me to sleep in a cold room without electricity without window in the “basement”.
He treated me very rudely when I was on shift, and after I left the hostel he marked as “no-show”.The hostel is a mess

It was a really nice volunteering experience. The working hours and tasks were well respected and communicated and you can ask Omar everything you are not sure about! Also I liked that there were many volunteers and that you can easily meet other travellers.

The work was three hours a day, from 7 to 10am preparing breakfast and cleaning the hostel common areas. You will have one day off per week. It comes with breakfast and bed, the room is dormitory room in the basement. Omar and Ellie was very kind, will have slight difficulty communicating if your spanish is not very good, but not a big problem! I enjoyed day trip to Laguna 69 which was unforgettable experience even though my stomach was very unwell and had headaches for the next two days😅 Im very grateful for this opportunity.

I had a good time in my two weeks at the hostel. The tasks were exactly like described (making breakfast, cleaning, making the beds) and the hours were respected as well. Most days you would only learn in the evening when you would work the next day (either morning or afternoon), that is something i would have loved to know a couple of days in advance. Other than that, Omar, his daughter and also the guests are very nice and i got to know many great travelers. What is cool also, is that you can use equipment like the hostel gear for free.

Omar is a lovely host and the work is easy, cleaning, serving breakfast and dressing beds in the morning, afternoons are mostly off. The hostel itself is missing a hang out area at the moment, but Omar is working on a roof terrasse and a big kitchen, which is gonna make the hostel a beautiful place to stay. There are a lot of things to do in Huaraz, be aware of the altitude though!

My experience at the hostel was short and good. I had the opportunity to do some activities related to painting the rooms, cleaning, and the preparation of breakfasts. The activities were easy, and in my free time I could get to know some lagoons near Huaraz. The host and his father were very kind and gave me advice on how to get to the lagoons.

Omar was clear about the tasks and schedules, and he also had flexibility so that we could get to know the city and go sightseeing. We helped paint two rooms and the hallway. We highlighted the good communication and the comfort of the hostel; we had a room just for ourselves.

Well, what I liked is that I could do my hours either in the morning or in the afternoon; there was no problem because there were no clients. I spent time cleaning common areas, bathrooms, and the kitchen, but it would have been great to have personal communication with the host. One day he came by and I didn't even know he was the host, and he didn't introduce himself to tell me anything or greet... and in the following days I saw him again, I asked him, and he told me that he was the host, and upon entering an area that was private but I hadn't been told anything about it beforehand, it caught my attention... With other volunteers he had more serious problems and he kicked them out.

O restante do dia é todo livre. O hostel tem uma estrutura muito boa. Quarto espaçoso, cama confortável, ducha ótima e cozinha bem equipada. Omar é um ótimo anfitrião e me ajudou com informações da cidade e dos trekkings. Recomendo!!
