I really enjoyed my stay here! The hostel is surrounded by beautiful nature, and it’s a great place to relax and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. The tasks were not too difficult, and there was also plenty of free time to explore, do activities, or simply rest.
I would recommend this place to anyone who loves nature, tranquility, and a relaxed environment. I had a really nice experience and would happily come back in the future!

If you are independent and like to spend time away from big cities and being surrounded by nature this is the right place. I only saw briefly the host twice while staying there, but they were flexible and able to communicate if I had a question. The accommodation is basic, a bed in a dormitory, and the tasks are light,~ 2 hours, 2 days in 1 day off. No breakfast but a 10£ order for the week. The bus stop is close and runs every 30 min till 6pm. The location is near the cliff full of trails with great views. I had a great time and I am very grateful for this opportunity.

The hostel McCools is a small hostel, fairly remote on the North Coast of Ireland. At 25 or so beds the work is light, business was often slow and your main duty is keeping the vibe up. It is also a largely unsupervised role, and you don't actually live with your hosts, making it a great role for people that are used to working and living independently. You are so close to the hostel and and the coastal path. The weather is highly changeable but when you are here for a few weeks you have the pick of the best weather for hiking and day trips and shifts are usually 2 days on, 2 days off.

Overall its a pretty good place. Right near the hostel, some really nice hikes/views, and only 1 bus into town. The staff sleep in the garage outside but its not too bad of a place. Jobs are really easy and takes less than 1-2 hours each day and all your doing is housekeeping. There was a long term volunteer there (3+ months) and they did reception, smaller tasks, and kinda acted like the boss of the place as the owners were barely there.

The hosts and team were lovely, work was easy and not many hours. The schedule could probably be better communicated, but it's a hostel that is much more chill and less demanding than any others we've volunteered at, so there was no immediate need for it. Work was around 1 hour a day doing general, every day cleaning, and then maybe half an hour to an hour after that doing bits and bobs around the place. We didn't do reception as the long-term volunteer wanted to do it. Better suited for someone who likes a bit of solitude and time on their hands The food budget was £10 a week tesco order.

I unfortunately had to leave early as I was feeling very uncomfortable at the hostel, there were repeated inappropriate comments questions from staff. If there were not 2 other girls volunteering as well I would have left earlier as it felt like I couldn't be at the hostel by myself without the girls. The staff room was not very nice, it was cold, there was mold, and the wifi didn't reach as it was in a separate building. The only real positive was the location being so close to the hostel and the working hours were easy.

Sorry to hear that happened and the staff member has been dismissed because of it. we have a 0 tolerance policy for that kind of behouviour.
But please if there is anything you are not happy with tell the host, otherwise they (we in this case) do not know, you left and than told us. We would have been more than happy to talk to you about any issues as we are always ready to improve where and when we can. But hope all is well and all the best for what the future will bring

Overall a very positive experience! Surrounded by nature and in a super peaceful. The hostel needs some updates, but in all is a cozy place. Communication could have been a bit better at times, with the main worker sometimes not super reliable. Note no free breakfast as stated on WorldPackers, but you do get 10£ towards an online food order every week. While I was there laundry was difficult since the machine was broken so it would sometimes take a few days to get it back, so I only did it once while there.
All that said, I had a good experience and the owners are so kind as well!!

I absolutely loved staying here! This was my first volunteer experience and Andre+Jacey were so welcoming, easygoing and fair. The work was manageable always, and the team as a whole worked really well together to make sure everything was done. I could not recommend them enough if you want to really slow down and enjoy the rural area

My time at the hostel was great, the tasks were very easy and straightforward, Rudy the stuff member was friendly, explained what needed to be done and was there in case we needed anything. i got to meet personaly only Andre, but both hosts are very kind. The hostel itself is cozy and has several areas where you can spend your free time. It is remote from bigger towns or the city, but The giants coasway is very near and there are more trails, beaches, small towns and villages whitin walking distance or a short bus ride.
