*The only hostel that I volunteer that gives you advice where you can go and what is the best places in the city and arround. It should be a must in hostels* Brian is a very nice guy, always concerned about your well-being. I stayed in a single room and it was very comfortable. He is always willing and enthusiastic to talk and interact. The work is easy, helping to clean the hostel and make the beds. Everything was great and the city is beautiful.
Keep given this opportunity for the travellers is always important find nice people on the road.
All the best for the hostel, you and your family.

I had a month with Brian in Matsumoto and thought it was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had.
Work is fun and Brian is super knowledgeable.
We had movie nights and some drink nights along with pub crawls with whomever was at the hostel that night.
And it’s an insane way to meet locals in the izakaya’s.
Would definitely recommend

Incredibly thoughtful and considerate gentleman who treats both guests and staff with great care. My work was light and the hours were well-defined, giving me plenty of free time to explore. The guesthouse is in a great location, just a five-minute walk from the station and close to Hakuba Village, making it perfect for day trips to ski. During my three weeks here, I met many interesting travelers from all over the world and gained a deeper understanding of Matsumoto. Thank you for your warm hospitality! Wishing you and your family all the best!hope to see you agian!

Overall the work in the hostel is pretty easy and can be done in a few hours. There is another Airbnb place that needs to be taken care of. I was living in a tatami room in this other building which was OK, but no windows in the living room, no sofa to chill, and you are expected to take care of the laundry everytime, which doesn't dry quickly. Brian is a fun person to hang out with and have a drink with however, there were times where I felt he overstepped. For example, placing guests on our living floor multiple nights. His communication was poor if it suited the hostel and himself better.

Matsumoto is a nice town with always something going on and ofc a lot to do around, especially if you enjoy hiking! Brian is really friendly and always trying to give you the best Japan experience. The work is also decent, about 4h a day with 2 days off on average. The hostel are 2 buildings, one close to the station and the other in the middle of the city.

The hostel is a great place to stay and volunteer. The owners Brien and Shuko are so kind, and always in a good mood. They make you feel at home from the very first moment. The hostel is a family hostel, so you and the guests enjoy the time together, you never feel alone. And Matsumoto city, despite being a small city, it has many interesting places to visit, apart from the amazing castle, so you definitely won't get bored. I would love to go back some day, as it was a highlight in my trip to Japan :)
