We are looking for 1-2 people to live on site and help us with our luxury country homestead. Formerly known as Wallingford Station, the homestead is situated in the stunning central Hawke’s Bay region of New Zealand’s North Island and has a rich history. Wallingford operates as a restaurant and luxury accommodation attracting guests from all over the world. The homestead houses a maximum of 25 guests at a time and we also host group functions (with or without accommodation included). There is also a pristine heating swimming pool with pool house.
The homestead has an extensive vegetable and herb garden underway as well as an existing (small but productive) orchard consisting of apples, pears, plums, citrus, stone fruit, quince, feijoa and many more. Truffles also form part of our unique harvest and we incorporate all the produce into our world-class, ever-changing restaurant menu.
5 hours per day with 2 days off (you will likely be working Saturday and/or Sunday). If you would like to join our team, we need you to be able to help with the following:
Everyday jobs: chopping wood and preparing the fireplaces, collecting the fruit from the trees, general cleaning up around the property, general maintenance, some cleaning in the house and doing the dishes.
Helping with Larger Projects: help with fixing up some of the older buildings (carpentry skills welcome!), painting jobs, building the veggie garden, laying down garden pathways and other heavier physical jobs.
Accommodation for our volunteers is in an adjacent clean and cosy residence about 100 metres away (not more than 2 residents at any one time). It has its own kitchen and bathroom. Separate bedroom for each person or combined for couples as preferred. We will provide one meal per day (usually dinner) and will provide some basic essentials for you to make your own breakfast/lunch (eg eggs, bread, fruit and veg). Volunteers will not be able to use the homestead facilities when guests are at the property (eg the pool).
