Program Details

Spread over an area of 60 acres of land, the permaculture farm sits at an altitude of 670 m. Temperature ranges from 18-25ºC .Temperate type of climate is found year round; summers are usually rainy, cloudy and humid while winter is foggy and never so harsh. It keeps an interesting geology of orange, banana, pear, fig orchards versus grassland slopes. As of now our farm houses around 20 buffaloes, 5 cows, 10-12 chickens and several goats. It also includes terraces of maize-rice, fodder-cereal plantation, and vegetable gardens. Few adorable pets highlight our day in the farm. Raju is a local breed of dog ever watchful of the farm surrounds. Ganga and Tika are 2 other cats, and there are other 3 wild rabbits sometimes making the fight scene. We are planning to extend within few months ahead with more addition of domestic animals. We are thinking of bio-gas plant and perhaps solar panel ins

Activities & Shift

We are excited to know that Worlpackers sends willing volunteers to host-farmers like us. Volunteers will be working with us on flexible schedules and get hands-on experience. Silage preparation, garden management, weeding flower beds, mushroom farming, cleansing farm tools, shampooing/oiling buffaloes or cows, bamboowork (doko, nanglo, syaankhu), woodwork, gundruk processing etc., to name but few, are our activities. Samples of few folk and herbal medicines like holy basil, aloevera, mint are planted. We even own an average spice factory that does blending, packaging and marketing of homegrown spice products. And for sure our farm volunteers get chance to frequent this attractive spice lab every week or so.

Rules

Volunteers will have to make rules on their own, meaning there are no fixed working hours applicable to everyone but they have to come up with their best schedule.
They will be working with our staff-farmers, most of them uneducated. So an open minded person will always find himself the best fit.
Remember smile is the best face wear you can have. Smile rules with us too.
For safety reasons volunteers are requested not to be too adventurous and wander as they want without properly being informed by our farm rangers.
