The Experience

Hi! Although some hostels in San Francisco are still closed, our hostel is still open with the help of amazing volunteers! The hostel is a bit slower than usual so the vibe is quieter than it usually is. However, you'll still meet some adventurous travelers. We provide a bunk in a dorm room, free wifi, basic breakfast, basic dinner ingredients, and lots of fun in return for only 25 hours a week of work!

I was housekeeping 6 days a week, on my only day off there was a meeting. But I had plans and I couldn't cancel, because of that they gave me warning and next time I supposed to leave. They are not understanding and supporting. Working six days a week from 11am- 3pm was not easy. I was tired every day at 3pm and hungry. The rest of the days I could only cook and have rest. When I found a job only for 2 nights a week, the manager was angry I was not gonna focus in hostel. They asked me to leave for a small misunderstanding at the end of my last shift. I didn't have a place I was under danger.

This was my first volunteering with WP, and I was so lucky in the hostel because the managers, Nikole and Asad were fantastic, they made you feel at home. They were also very comprehensive, if you needed to ask something they were there to help you no matter what. Also, the vibe this hostel has is amazing to meet new people, they really focus on creating that experience for both guests and volunteers. Don't hesitate and apply to volunteer in the hostel! :)

Two points were fundamental for my experience with the hostel in San Francisco to be incredible, Nikole and Asaad. Wonderful people who do everything to make the environment pleasant and integrated. I think that most people can seek this experience out of financial need, but I guarantee that it goes far beyond that, especially if you have an open heart to meet people and cultures from places you never imagined having contact. Thank you for welcoming Angelo too, a blessed being and attentive to details. Thank you Steve for the opportunity to experience this time with the hostel.

I had an amazing time at the hostel. The communication with the managers is really nice and the work is super easy. I made really good friends there. I especially loved the activities every night! It definitely doesn't get boring there 😊
