The Exchange

Be part of the spiritual community that keeps the Temple running for the public benefit. Immerse yourself in the Buddhist way of life, learn Portuguese (if you like) and enjoy the warmth of Brazilian people. During your stay, you will help in maintenance, gardening, cleaning, etc. Work shifts are from 9am to 5pm, with pauses for coffee and meals. This is a smoke-free environment, meals are vegetarian and we don´t kill animals or insects.


30 hours of help per week

Cleaning: Help clean the kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms and common areas.

Housekeeping: Help with changing the bed linens and general housekeeping.

Gardening: Help grow plants and cultivate gardens

What you get

2 days off per week

Shared Dorm: You will have a bed in a shared room, which means you will share the same room with other travelers.

Breakfast: You are entitled to a free breakfast, every day of your stay.

Lunch: You are entitled to a free lunch, every day of your stay.

Dinner: You are entitled to a free dinner, every day of your stay.

Free Events: Get free entrance for the best events in town.

What's not included

Flights, Travel Insurance, Internal Transportation and Visa

Program Details

7 am: wake up with the sound of birds, surrounded by an ecological reserve. If you are lucky, you can see local fauna in your way to breakfast ;)
9 am: volunteering begins and you will receive instructions from a coordinator. We will try to alocate you according to your skills
10:30 - 11am: pause for coffee, biscuits and a chat with other volunteers
11 am: more of your precious help
1 pm: delicious and healthy vegetarian meal
2 pm: back to work!
3:30 - 4 pm: another pause to relax
4 pm: one more hour of joyous effort
5 pm: relax and watch the sunset :-)
6:30 pm: supper time
7:30 pm: chanted prayers or meditation class
9 am: watch the stars, read from our Buddhist library or enjoy time with the community

Activities & Shift

According to your skills, you will have the opportunity to help with:
- Basic maintenance
- Gardening
- Cleaning
- Preparing accomodation for guests
- Day-by-day activities such as dishwashing, cooking, etc
- Special projects, such as painting, construction work , etc
You will have the opportunity to learn some Buddhist rituals, like making offerings, according to your interest.


This is an spiritual community and you will be expected to respect the following rules in our premises:
- not killing, including insects
- not lying
- not stealing
- smoke, alcohol or intoxicants are not allowed
- vegetarian meals only
