If you are a dog lover and looking for a way to contribute meaningfully to so many beautiful lives, look no further! At the shelter, you will have plenty of opportunity to get to know the dogs while living on site at the sanctuary. The dogs have a good routine and the tasks are easy enough to manage if you are already familiar with dogs. There are some stronger dogs that pull and/or jump, so being dog confident is beneficial. A month at HHOH truely changed me and my perspective to street/stray animals, and for that, I am truely grateful! I really the shelter to return one day. :)

Well, I've been here for a month and two weeks and today I'm leaving. I wanted to say that Helen is amazing, a person with a giant heart and just to help the animals she would do anything. I don't regret coming and I the shelter the next volunteers enjoy it as much as I do. The routine is easy, it can be a little tiring but you get the hang of it right now. The volunteers I've been with have been a sweetheart with me and the truth is that you have a great time. Thank you very much Helen and thank you very much for doing what you do. The dogs are amazing ❤️😘.

I loved my time with the dogs. Although the work was hard and sometimes tired, everyone was very kind and patient with me. Helen is wonderful and empathetic with all the volunteers, and it's clear she loves the sanctuary dogs a lot. It's definitely an experience I recommend if you truly like these animals and want to help, because she makes a truly difference to those homeless dogs, it's amazing. I'm sure that if I have the chance I would repeat it, I enjoyed everything 💖

I'm not a dog person, so the first two days I was a bit shocked. But then, once I got used to the environment and the routine, I loved it! Dog are very lovely. Helen is a truly amazing host. We met her almost every morning for feeding and she also invited us a few times to her place for dinner and to a bar to meet her friends. The only two things that could have made my stay nicer were better relationship with one of the other volunteers and the opportunity to discover serroundigs as Bulgarian countryside is not very pretty. But of course, this is not the shelter or anyone's fault. So I recommend.

What Helen is doing is truly an incredible labor of love and makes such a huge difference in the lives of these dogs, who need so much love, care, and attention. ❤️ Helen was always very thoughtful and made sure we had everything we needed during our stay. She also made me feel very welcome by inviting us to her home to enjoy the pool, the pizza, and the barbecue together. I'm very grateful for this experience and for the opportunity to help these beautiful dogs.

I had a really nice experience volunteering at the shelter. Helen is a very kind and welcoming host, and it was amazing to be surrounded by so many lovely dogs. The work can be tiring at times, but it is very rewarding and you really feel that you are helping the animals. I'm very grateful for the experience and for everything I learned during my stay. I would definitely recommend this experience to anyone who loves animals and wants to help! ❤️

I spent a great time at the shelter. The tasks include feeding and walking the dogs, all while spending time in the Bulgarian countryside, and the best of all, with all the love and affection that the dogs can give to you and you give to them. I'd totally recommend this experience.

Even though the time I volunteered there was very cold and alot of hard work, the people made up for it! Helen has so much love to share especially for the dogs.
But just a heads up if you're only staying for 2 weeks you're probably not gonna get a day off. It wasn't an actual problem for me though.
I'd come again!

The animals and other volunteers were lovely, but unfortunately we did not feel supported by the host. We had to leave early because I became ill, and after returning home, both of us were sick for over a week. I felt that my concerns were not taken seriously and no help or advice was offered by the host, we had to find a taxi on our own. Most information came from other volunteers rather than the host (we only saw once and she barely responded to my messages). Volunteers should be prepared for very basic living conditions, a very isolated location, and not much support when problems arise.
