Program Details
We are a small hostel started in 1999 by an American couple, Linda and Steve. This position involves working at reception, welcoming and checking in guests, socializing with and planning events for them, and ensuring that the hostel runs smoothly when we are not present. You will be working autonomously during your shifts. A great candidate for this position is an independent, self-starting, bilingual extrovert with hospitality experience, who enjoys meeting and socializing with new people rather than staying in their room or behind their screen when others are around. We're NOT a party hostel. Our vibe is chilled & relaxed, but we want guests to socialize, and you would play an important part in that.
Your accommodation is in a shared room with 2 other volunteers of the same gender in a small studio basement apartment located next to the hostel. Meals are not included.
Activities & Shift
Reception, caretaking, hosting events and socializing with guests, being around for emergencies.
A very detailed email is sent to interested applicants who we think will be a good fit. It explains in detail the duties, living conditions, and hours that need to be covered.
Rules
1. We are a no-drama zone. Please leave any drama at home.
2. You must have a laptop & smartphone with WhatsApp downloaded & notifications on as that's how we communicate. Everyone works from their own laptop during their shift.
3. We do not accept the following types of volunteers:
- students who are studying or interns who are interning in Rome
- volunteers who want to obtain another job while in Rome. If you work remotely, it must be flexible so you can maintain your flexibility and priority with us during the 2 months you are here.
- volunteers who have boyfriends or girlfriends in Italy and are volunteering here to be near them
4. Because of our contact with people worldwide, a recent Covid vaccine is highly recommended but not required.
5. Please follow our kitchen rules. You must be very careful with the appliances and the area, in general, must be left very clean after use.
