I got what I came for, and I feel as though I contributed what was expected of me. I was not looking for a typical vacation. I wanted to go to a foreign country, speak the language, live like locals, eat local food, practice farming a bit, travel, and meet new people. Although it would have been fun to travel more while I was there that is not the reason why I chose to work here. Coming from America the conditions were not what I was used to, but that is what made the experience so valuable for me. It was a bit of a reset. The work is about three hours a day on average and not too hard.

Had an amazing first volunteering experience was nice to be surrounded by nature and learning about a different kind of environment. Fabian and Belen were brilliant ! They were understanding of my beginner Spanish and I was able to practice and improve my understanding with my stay here. Their hospitality was perfect , was a nice insight on local life and cuisine , perfect cultural immersion . Also very grateful for Manuel and Citlali for the opportunity to see the Butterfly migration unique to michoacan it really was unique . What an experience this has been , something I will never forget!

I spent a week with Fabian & Belen on their granja de truchas. The work varied each day - raking leaves, painting, cleaning house, sorting fish eggs, cleaning ponds. Belen cooked us two tasty meals around 11a and 4p each day; both she and Fabian were kind and patient with my intermediate Spanish. I was hoping for more cultural exchange, but the actual hosts have their own life to live and the WP hosts (Nemi & Manuel) are off-site. Don't expect an orientation and bring warm clothes and ready-to-eat food as the kitchen is very minimal. I struggled a bit, but happy to hear others have enjoyed!

This was my first experience with Worldpackers, and it couldn't have been better! Intense immersion in lush nature and a relaxed work routine that mainly involved feeding the trout and cleaning the tanks. Beyond that connection with the environment, I was able to dive into Mexican culture through Fabián and Belén's family, who prepared delicious meals and showed exceptional hospitality. I am immensely grateful to Manuel and his family for this amazing project and for opening their doors so volunteers can gain a close understanding of the importance of nature.

Manuel and his family manage various trout farms so most of the time will be spent with the family working on the farm. I had a great experience with Ariz and Alex taking care of the trout farm and the garden. Knowing Spanish helped a lot in my case. I would definitely come back!

My experience with the reserve was HORRIBLE. I was supposed to teach English to teenagers within the community but when I got there that didn't happen. Instead I was cleaning A LOT (fish tanks, dishes, etc) around the farm. And my room where I slept was filthy, stinky and extremely cold (leaking toilet & dirty beds). The food was mediocre. The family I stayed was okay but its was very challenging for us both because I don't speak fluent Spanish and they don't speak English at all. When I spoke to Citlali (host) about the issues, she told she had “10,000 meetings to attend” Very terrible.

My experience was fantastic, I did 28 days with them and I enjoyed every day. There are several jobs to do so you won't be doing the same thing every day. Some days the work was pretty easy, other days the work was quite heavy, but I'm sure the host will have you doing what you're capable of doing. I worked with Fabian and Belen, who are both a very hard working couple who lead by example and extremely easy to get along with. This place is definitely for the nature enthusiast and I would 100% recommend it to anyone! Thank you so much!

I spent around a month of time here, the people are nice and really open. I got invited to a lot of different occasions, where I got to experience the Mexican culture and free food :) The accommodation are also decent, you get to live on one of the farms managed under this account. I was on two of them, I had a private room, with bathroom in the first farm and a double room in the second one. The double room felt like a private room though, because there were no other volunteers. Which was for me a bit of a bummer, because I had hoped for more social interaction.

I had the chance to visit two farms / families, both implicated in aquaculture activities and the second one with agriculture as well. The two families, Fabian & Belen and Arizbeth & Alexandro, really made me feel part of their family and their team on the farm. If You choose this option for your next WorldPacker trip, it's really important to keep in mind that this is another way to travel, so it's important to come with an open mind and energy to embrace the whole experience ! As well, a huge thank you to Citlali & Manuel, for the organisation of this experience. I really enjoyed it !
